Set in post-apocalyptic Japan, the main protagonists are depicted as warlords in a ravaged world. Because of this theme, presenting the Witches as snake-demons and Macduff as a four-armed, gigantic mutated warrior, seems perfectly appropriate- and also neatly explains why Macduff could never have been born naturally! The text is clear, the storyline easy to follow ( the chief characters are presented in colour, with a brief description of each, at the front of the book, which gives a handy reference guide to the relationships between them) and, unlike "traditional" Manga , the book reads left-to-right, in the Western style, which is less daunting than a more "purist" manga presentation. The drawing is excellent, the setting interesting, which should encourage the reader to enjoy the entire play as an exciting and slightly gruesome adventure story. The memorable depiction of the characters and setting should remain in the mind's eye for a long time. I consider this a useful teaching aid as supporting, while not replacing the original text . I wasn't disappointed and I now own Othello and Hamlet. I will eventually get the whole set.
