There is one plastic rod that goes through the holes. The hose is easy to assemble and the auto-reel function is a welcome change to having to manage the hose while cranking it onto a spool. However I've several criticisms of the product: 1. The instructions don't specify the size of the screws or the size of pozi screwdriver required 2. The screws were of very poor quality and it's easy to chew up the pozi fitting, particularly with the amount of force required to drive the screws into the wall I recommend buying some better quality M5 x 50mm long screws from ScrewFix.
