Review: Required driver no longer available from MS - I got this card today and excitedly installed it in my HP Pavilion Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit desktop PC. After a very bad experience with another supplier's card I expected wonderful things since this one comes with a driver CD. The install went smoothly, no problems at all; until...time to install drivers. On the back page of the manual is a notation that "KB2581464", available only from Microsoft because of their insane licensing scheme, is required. Well, folks, since Redmond stopped supporting Windows 7 they removed this download and it is no longer available. The included drivers get the card up and running, but without the MS download you won't get full USB3.0 speed. I'm beyond frustrated with all of this, having recently gone through a fiasco and resultant return of the other supplier's merchandise. At least this card does actually work...albeit not the way I expected it to. I can't in good conscience return this card since it does work, and I can't blame the manufacturer for the antics of one Microsoft Corporation; so I will limp along without the speed I expected to attain. If you are running Windows 8, 8.1, or 10 you will probably be fine. If like me you are sticking with Windows 7 you are probably out of luck. Unless your system installed that KB when it was available. I don't know if other cards require this or not, but I am through messing with it. No more trials for me...I will stay with what I have. Edit 8-21-2021 Yesterday evening I got a notice of a software update available. Because I am still running Windows-7, I thought that was strange. Well, I installed the update and it was for the Fresco Logic drivers for this card. After the update completed I ran a USB speed test using USBView (downloadable from from Microsoft) and I now have USB-3 speeds from this card. I have raised my review to five stars to reflect this change.
Review: How to connect to power wasn't obvious to me. - This card worked perfectly for me, a relatively non-tech person, as you will see from this post. I wanted it because my kid has an Oculus Quest and wanted to access his old library of Rift games on his PC. That requires a USB C cable, but I didn't have a port on my machine. Install is easy: unscrew the gate that holds the bracket cover in the back of your PC (choose a slot that lines up with an available PCI expansion slot on the motherboard. You only need the smallest slot of this type, PCI E 1x, though it fits larger 4x, etc); then gently/firmly insert this expansion card into the PCI slot. Here is what I wished I had known: To power the card, you must use ONE of the cables that comes with it. They are both Y cables. One of them has a 4-prong old-style plug on it, useful for older PCs I guess. The other one is the one you likely need. In my deep ignorance, I had no idea (and the "manual", printed on a single small piece of paper, gave me no insight) how to connect the card to power. (It's pretty obvious, but only after I got some help!) Find a device in your machine, such as a hard drive, that uses the same SATA power connector cord as the one you received. Unplug that device, and plug its cable into the stem of the Y cable. Plug one of the two ends of the Y (think "top arms") back into the device you unplugged the main cable from. Plug the other top arm of the Y into the new expansion card. Now it's plugged into power. The Y cable, of course, is a splitter. Most tech people will smirk at my incredible ignorance, and of course I deserve it! You're welcome. Update: One year later this device works fine. I just ordered a second one for my other kid's PC, since he has inherited his brother's oculus, which he outgrew. I could have switched the card from one boy's machine to the other's, but the original card has numerous devices still plugged into it, just not an Oculus.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Nice card.
*by N***T on June 30, 2020*

I needed to provide a new source of USB ports for my computer build as it seems that the new motherboards almost presume you will be adding a card instead of providing lots of USB ports (mine had 4). 1. What's in the box? You receive a driver CD (assume this is for anything but a Windows 10 machine, instructions, a SATA power cord connector, and some screws for mounting. 2. Installation?: Install did not work for my computer build unfortunately. I have a ASUS Prime Z390A motherboard and a Corsair case. Now, this looks like it will nicely fit any word with PCI-Express slots. Indeed, this was close to fitting quite well but my motherboard has a cover near the PCI slot I needed to use and ws this close to fitting but wouldn't fit. There is a little flange on the metal bracket which provides the face for the external slot for the rear of the computer, this was just enough to not let this fit. So I can comment that installation almost looked quite easy. 3. Aesthetic?: This looks really nice. The packaging is quite nice. Very well packed, with nice foam inserts, and a nice plastic bag for the card. Plus, the black metal was the key selling point to me because it matched the rest of my build. Overall: Overall I can say this looks like a nicely built USB 3.0 card that should have fit and worked easily. I can report on everything but the wiring part because of a tiny flange that prevented installation. If you have a ASUS Z-390 or similar with a cover by the slots for rear access make extra sure you have a few millimeters of this might not fit. Otherwise this is a nice car by appearance and price point.
