Is this really necessary?** A: According to my audiologist, regulations now forbid the use of mercury in hearing aid batteries, so the modern ones run on different electro-chemical principles than batteries did formerly. If you look closely, you'll see tiny holes in the back of the battery that allow air to enter the battery once the tab is removed. This step, apparently, is necessary to give the battery a little head start in its operation. Again, my audiologist tells me that it's her experience that a 10-minute wait is preferable to a 2-3 minute wait in order to get maximum life out of a battery. My wife and I have been observing the 10-minute practice and find that the batteries last a little more than a week using them up to about 12 hours per day. **Q: How many days should these last if you take them out at night. What are the signals the battery needs replaced?** A: How long they last is determined by the hearing aids and how long they are worn. I love these batteries because I usually get ten days from each battery. I was getting five to seven days from other brands. Rayovac I have found last the longest for me. I wear my hearing aids for up to eighteen hours some days. **Q: Is it zinc-air?** A: I think so. I do not see anywhere on the packaging where it says it is zinc-air, but it does say it replaces all size 312 zinc-air batteries. Each battery also has a sticky tab over it, and they are mercury-free. **Q: What is the difference between the proline advanced rayovac and these extra advanced? other than the marketing guy out for drinks on friday.** A: I have used the Rayovac Extra Advanced and they last longer than a brand I was using before. I get about 4 days of power for my hearing aids.
