Review: A reasonable controller - Took a chance with this wireless controller: was going to buy the SNES lookalike one instead but decided this one would probably be more comfortable. Well I'm generally very happy with it: had zero issues so far. It's a cinch to connect it to the Switch: you have to enable Pro controllers in the option of the Switch, then the option to add a controller, then press Home and Y together to get it to pair up. Once you've done that, it'll spring to life from standby by pressing L+R together, just like the stock controllers. The LEDs on the front cycle whilst it's doing this and then show which player number you are. The controller is very comfortable, though I'm not experienced with these things. The pad and joysticks seem to be in approximately the right places and I had no problem controlling games with the sticks or, in the case of Mario Kart, with motion. Super Meat Boy an the D-pad is also very playable. The only real issue I've had (though I've not tried charging it yet) is that the rumble is too strong. It's not a problem in some games but in others, where the force feedback is used a lot it can get quite annoying. Unfortunately there doesn't appear to be any way to turn the rumble off. I'm actually thinking that maybe I'll open her up and stick a resistor in line with the motor. (I've actually since got used to it or it's update itself somehow as I'm not really noticing like I did when I first got it. Strange.) The product is very much a white-label affair: it's obviously been made, to reasonable standard, in some Chinese factory (I think manufactured by GTCoupes) with the intention that other companies will apply their own brand to it. The one I received came completely unbranded without even any markings on the rear. The manual was also badly translated but there's really not much to explain so it doesn't really matter. Unfortunately there was no link to a website for support or to get firmware upgrades: a pity as I was hoping a firmware upgrade would fix the overzealous rumble. Anyhow, it's half the price of the official Pro controller and does everything it said it would, so I'm happy with it. If you shop around you'll find what appears to be the identical controller from other 'brands' at cheaper prices, but I went with desertcart for safety. Battery life is not amazing but isn't really a problem either. It's micro-USB chargeable so it's just a case of plugging it in when it's low. It's a pity they didn't use USB type C like the Switch is as then you would be able to charge the controller and the Switch with the same plug when you're out and about. (I'll update this review if there are any issues with the battery life, charging or longevity of the product. If anyone knows if it's possible to update the firmware to fix the rumble then I'd appreciate the tip.) 2018-03-13 Applied the 5.0.0 system update to my Switch and now turning the controller on crashes the Switch. Bit irritating, hopefully Nintendo address this with a further update or, failing that, GameWill provide a firmware update. 2018-03-14 Gamewill contacted me with instructions on how to update the controller. However they did not include the actual .exe to do the upgrade, nor where to download it from. I've contacted them a second time. 2018-03-15 Gamewill replied to my email pointing out that there was no binary: "Hello, please install the compressed file and follow the instructions". However there, again, was no file attached. Sigh. 2018-03-16 Gamewill now understand the problem. They are going to send me the firmware/updater directly. 2018-03-19 Despite dialogue with Gamewill, I've still to receive the updater binary so the controller remains unusable. As such I've lowered my rating down. 2018-03-21 No longer getting replies from GameWill. Still have not received the updater binary. I strongly suggest not buying this product if it's ever restocked as it appears to have no support.

Works perfectly, my son is very happy and says it's awesome. Great Service from Gamewill too. Would definitely buy another if I needed to. Took seconds to connect it by pressing Home and Y, then confirming again with Home and Y.
