I have a good router and I wanted to use it, but I was blocked by the talktalk modem/router. With this product (Huawei BT modem) it worked perfectly! This modem connected directly to the internet without any Router function. Now I connect my router to it and get a free connection to the outside world managed by my router that is MUCH better than the talktalk one. Beware, this modem only works as a modem. It will not setup your network so you will need a router to distribute the internet to multiple devices or via wifi. If you are looking for a clean connection to your TalkTalk service, I really recommend this product! Review: Poor quality - I knew I was ordering a refurbished item, but this arrived in a sorry state, marks and scratches across the whole thing, a random plug that wasn't correct so would not fit the power connector meaning it would fall out, and the connectors in the LAN ports were temperamental. It only works on a copper connection. Is this correct?** A: take care with some of these answers! First the modem takes a copper connector not a fibre optic - see the socket labelled "DSL" in the picture. However it works on "fibre" products which are actually Fibre To The Cabinet (FTTC) then copper to the premises. I can't see how adding an ADSL router which is designed to connect to the same phone line (which it can't because you've plugged it into this device) would work. **Q: Does this modem authenticate at the router using pppoe so the chosen router controls the internet ping and what ports are open and not the modem?** A: Hi. Yes it requires to be set to PPoE for Fibre. ISP settings will need to be done via the Router not the Modem, The locked ones will only work with BT. **Q: Why is LAN2 blocked off?** A: Mine says it's not in use.
