It is very sensitive though and often opens as I walk past it. If it can be put into a place which is not walked past constantly, it is a great piece of equipment. You must however ensure that you know exactly where the sensor is - it appears to be at the front and not where you would think, looking at the black sensor part. I have had my hands full of rubbish and haven't been able to put the rubbish in quick enough because I haven't caught the right part of the sensor to open the bin quick enough before dropping most of the rubbish on the floor. It just takes getting used to really, if one hasn't had an automatically opening bin before. I tend to place my leg in front of the sensor now and haven't dropped anything else on the floor since! I sincerely hope that it lasts a long time though. I had believed the bin came with a one year guarantee but nothing was in the packaging. I do like the item however and it was a great price. Perhaps but I really like it. Only had it a fortnight so lets see how long it lasts. Nice clean lines. Bin liner hidden from view very easily. Easy to clean, but doesn't get dirty because there is no need to touch it. So easy to throw messy rubbish away when you don't have to touch the bin, shocked how much I like that feature! I downsized from a 60L bin as requested by my lady. And she is very happy with it too. Obviously this fills faster, but anything bigger and the rubbish starts to smell anyway, so this is perfect. We have a baby and not needing to touch the bin when throwing away soiled nappies is ideal. We bought 2 bins, 1 for rubbish, 1 for recycling. They look very stylish in the kitchen side by side. and ideal size to fit under units. Only negative is the plastic "chrome" top. I would have preferred metal, or even a brushed metal. Much more stylish. But it really isn't much of an issue. Still looks great, and for the price you really cant complain. Lovely bin. UPDATE: 4 months in and bins still work perfectly. However I would reiterate that the plastic chrome top is not ideal. Gets fingermarked and smudged far too easily. Also I vacuumed coffee grinds off the top with our handheld dustbuster and the top scratched very very easily. A brushed metal (or even sturdy matt plastic) would have been much better. I also do still find the bin just a bit too small for a 3 person family. Too many trips to the outdoor bins (3 x a week maybe). 10L bigger would be perfect.
