I've not had any issues with it popping open unexpectedly which has been an issue with other sharpeners I have used in the past (I carry it in my purse with my portable adult colouring supplies). It sharpens all brands of pencils very well, even my Staedtler Ergosofts that are triangular in shape...I've had issues finding a small sharpener that they will actually fit into that also sharpens them to a suitable point, and this definitely fits the bill. The only thing that would have made this better would have been the opportunity to choose the colour I received, but that is a very minor thing that doesn't affect the function of the sharpener at all, so I feel it would be silly to deduct a star from my rating for that reason. If you're searching for a small, portable sharpener that won't pop open in your bag and works incredibly well with a variety of pencil shapes and sizes, I would recommend the purchase of this wholeheartedly.
