I use the Canson XL statement size sketchbooks and there's actually enough length and give to cover it even with the coil binding. On the inside is a card pocket and slot to put loose notes and what not's. Rather than sew in a pen/pencil holder their solution is to provide a leather and metal clip so you can attach your pen or pencil wherever suits you. This looked perfect on the screen and the pictures had me excited to get this in my hands. The pictures are not only accurate, but doesn't represent this to its fullest. I don't think it is even possible for pictures to truly capture how amazing this cover is. The first thing I noticed when I unpacked this was the smell of leather. It reminded me of walking into a leather store. It didn't have that big box retail store leather product smell, but genuine, handcrafted leather. This does mark and scratch very easily, so be aware of this, but I find it adds more character and personality to the cover. Mine already has several scratches, but I feel like they almost add to the rugged, beautiful look this thing already has. Everything about this reminds me of great craftsmanship and quality. This reminds me of something I would pick up from a local leather craftsman.
