## Customer Reviews

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐

Great show ... Blu-ray discs have some disappointments. (Hopefully Cinedigm and Rooster Teeth are paying attention.)

*by J***. on Reviewed in the United States 🇺🇸 on June 10, 2018*

I am a huge RWBY fan, the characters, story, everything about it is excellent! It is the story of a group of exceptional people trying to do what they can when the proverbial manure impinges upon the rotational air handling device, in spite of them not being quite ready for what is coming. It is also about how they build a strong team and become close friends along the way. But .... you probably know that already if you're looking at Volume 5. So, instead of an in-depth look at the story, I'll make some comments about the Vol. 5 "Combo set"

RWBY: Volume 5 COMBO [Blu-ray

].First; the term "combo" is rather misleading. I had expected, as with the Vol. 4

RWBY: Volume 4 [Blu-ray

] Blu-ray that had both a blu-ray AND a DVD, that the combo meant it had both disc formats. This does not. Instead it has 2 blu-ray discs ... one with the show and one with the extras. This works fine for me, however if you have a DVD player you need to be aware of this when you buy it.Also, as other reviewers have noted, there is not really a "play as a movie" option on this set. You can select a "play all" type of function, but it simply strings the individual episodes together ... you will have the opening theme (admittedly an excellent song) play for every episode and the ending credits for every episode. This is inconvenient if you want to watch Vol. 5 as a single movie (as we have been able to do with every previous volume). Of course, you can fast-forward through the ending credits and the next episode's opening sequence, but that becomes a tad inconvenient after a while. Along this same vein, if you go to the episode selection option and select an episode, it only plays that episode then stops, so you can't use that to jump in where you left off, then play the rest of the volume. I really liked being able to play the volume as a single movie and it was one of the things I really looked forward to on this disc. So, a little disappointed in that. I do love the fact that I can play the show with the commentary, though admittedly, I haven't done so yet. But the option is there. Now to the 2nd disc with the extra content. There's a nice little bit about "5 years of RWBY" which I enjoyed. There is also a selection of their character shorts; Weiss, Blake and Yang. Wait! What??? Where the heck is the Ruby character short? Yeah ... not there. I do not understand this at all. WHY would they give us those character shorts but NOT include the one for the main character, Ruby Rose??? I mean, it's on YouTube and, I assume, on RT ... so it's not a secret, un-released, spoiler-providing thing. I was quite disappointed in not having this included. Finally, the 2nd disc has no closed captioning / subtitles. I am a little hearing impaired and usually rely on these when I'm watching DVD's (or Blu-ray's) so I don't have to have the volume up as high. However the extras on the second disc do not have this function. Again, slightly inconvenient for me (more so for anyone with a worse impairment) and something I really wish they had included. But then, the extras on previous discs didn't have CC either.Fortunately, the show itself does make up for the disappointments of this "combo" disc set. And, honestly, the fact that I love RWBY so much is the main thing that brought my rating back up to 4 stars. The RWBY creators have given me so much enjoyment in the story and characters that I can overlook these disappointments.

### ⭐⭐⭐

There IS NOT a "Play As Movie" option.

I absolutely love RWBY, the stars are specifically for the Item/Disc(s) in particular. Here are a few things I don't like about the Item/Disc(s):1: Amazon is listing this item as a "Combo" pack. Meaning a DVD/Blu-Ray Disc Combo. No, this IS NOT a DVD/Blu-Ray Disc Combo pack. There are 2 Discs; Disc 1 has RWBY Volume 5 on it. Disc 2 has the Special Features (5 Years Of RWBY, Character Sorts, CRWBY Series, etc).2: Something I personally don't like is the fact that they had to put the Special Features on one disc alone, instead of putting it on the same disc that has the actual Volume on it.3: Something that I -- and a lot of people don't like -- is that there IS NOT a MOVIE MODE on this Volume. Previous Volumes had 3 options: Play As Movie, Scene Selection, or Chapter Select. Play As Movie is so you can watch every episode without dealing with Chapter End Credits or having to listen to/watch the Opening Theme's over and over again (Not saying the Opening Theme's are bad, they're pretty kickass), this Volume/Blu-Ray Disc DOES NOT have that Option. Instead of playing everything like that, your option on this Volume/Blu-Ray Disc, is "Play All", it will play it like a Movie, but the Opening Theme and Chapter End Credits will play after every Chapter ends instead of just continuing to the next chapter (Like a movie would). That is a pretty big swift-kick in the ass. I don't know how anyone from Rooster Teeth didn't think of this.As for this Volume; I would give it a 4-4.5/5 stars. I liked it a lot, though some moments were just too goofy, and sometimes I feel like they overdid some of the humor in this Volume. I love when RWBY is serious and dark, but I also love the humor in it, but adding too much humor -- especially overdoing it -- kind of kills it. But I still love this Volume. My personal favorite Volumes are 3 and 4.

    Heading the right direction.

Personally, I enjoyed this season of RWBY immensely.First of all, the animation looks great. They really have improved a lot every season and it really shines in season 5.As far as the pacing goes, I felt that the plot of season 4 kind of meandered a bit and didnt move forward as well as it should. Season 5 did a much better job of keeping my interest. The reveals were good, as were the twists.I want to also point out that RWBY season 5 did a better job with its villains. While some remain the "Evil for Evils Sake" sort, season 5 really expanded on some of the villains and gave a sense that they are more 3 dimensional than originally thought. Some of the villains are more "broken" than evil and it made them more interesting.Clearly, many disagree with me, but I feel season 5 is well worth your time.
