I had a stroke 9 month ago that pretty well disabled my right leg and arm. Despite extensive physiotherapy that has helped me regain my leg I've still got a unresponsive arm.The problem is, although I get help in the gym to attach my hand to the various machines to exercise my arm, when I'm at home I can't use any machine because my wife can't either bandage my hand to the machine or help me use a conventional gym grasping glove. Then I discovered the Active Hands General Purpose gripping aid and my life began to change. I can put it on one handed with no help in seconds and bind my hand to any piece of equipment. I can also grasp a knife, fork or spoon (but I can't lift them to my mouth YET) and, joy of joys, hold a Nordic Hiking Pole in my right hand too. I can't yet use the pole in the way it was intended but the weight helps me with my gait when I go walking.My progress in the two weeks I have had the glove has been ( to me ) remarkable. Using an aid i built myself, a 3 foot by 2 foot square of 1 inch PVC plumbing pipe, I can strap my hand to the top pipe, step on the bottom pipe and push and pull to exercise my arm. After just two weeks I can straighten my arm and by holding the frame at 45Deg to my body I'm beginning to rotate my arm too. And as my physio predicted, once I started moving my arm my wrist and fingers would try to follow.
