It works and is Linux compatible (Debian 8 and I'm sure other Deb-based varieties). I wish it installed flush against the laptop's Expresscard slot. I'm not an EE or hardware hacker, but I feel like it could have been designed that way but instead it sticks out.

    Doesn't work. No vendor support.

I was looking to find a way to read CF cards with my laptop without having to have a separate dongle thingy like the card readers that plug into the USB port. This was not the answer. It plugs in where it should, the OS (Win7 pro) knows it's there, but it doesn't register like other card readers and it won't read CF cards. After an extensive search I've been unable to locate any drivers (not sure one is needed) and the vendor seems to be dead. I'd have returned it to Amazon but I waited too long.Don't buy this product unless you already have one working.

Slimmer and faster than my old USB 2.0 multi card reader

I didn't really need this, but I bought it simply for the fact that it was a nicer, cleaner way to transfer files between my camera and laptop. Previously, I was using a multi-card reader with a long USB cable. Even with the cable velco-tied nicely, it was still too bulky and cumbersome to constantly connect and deal with it dangling from the USB port while I was using it. I transfer files frequently and wanted an easier way to do it.This CF reader is definitely better for what I was doing than my multi card reader. Yes, this is *only* for compact flash cards, but my laptop already has a separate port for SD cards, so that's not a big deal. It is definitely a more compact way to connect my CF cards. But yet it still isn't as slim and subtle as I was hoping. You can see from my picture there is still a small gap between the bulky part of this device and my laptop. I was hoping it would be flush and not stick out much. It also only takes in about 20% of the length of the CF card, so that sticks out even further. So not optimal, but still a big upgrade from what I was doing before. Unfortunately, I don't even know if a truly flush CF reader exists in ExpressCard form, so this seems to be the best option for now.It was super easy to set up. It came with a driver/install disc, but I just threw that away and let Windows Update automatically install the drivers, which work great. Transfer speeds are *significantly* faster than my USB 2.0 multi-card reader. Though not quite as fast as a different USB 3.0 reader I use on another computer. But fast enough that I'm never sitting around twiddling my thumbs waiting for large files anymore. Very impressive.I also like the Verbatim brand, which was why I chose this over other brands. I have had many other Verbatim products in the past, and they have all been reliable and work well.So other than the length this still sticks out of my laptop, it's pretty close to flawless. Fast transfer speeds, easy drivers install, and very reliable.
