If you are in the US not using the programming software us your better choice, program them by hand. The Antenna provided may not give you the best results for every band this radio is capable of receiving and transmitting on. If you've owned a Baofeng before, you know what I mean. There are some positive points. The power is decent, and with 3 power modes selectable it can extend battery life. The screen is large enough to easily read and you can display text names for channels not just frequencies. The GPS function is accurate and I can see it being helpful if you are the group that always looses a hiker. It is a full sized radio but not awkwardly so like some of their other models. Sound quality is a little better than I have come to expect from these radios.
