.com          Still primarily known in the U.S. for the slow-burning groove track "Days Gone By," Dirty Vegas aren't interested in making people dance on One. Programmed beats and driving keyboards have been ditched entirely. In their place, the DV trio indulges their instrumental id, trotting out guitars, pop song structure, and deadly earnest New Wavy rock. It's a bold move, and while they occasionally pull off decent melodies (the chorus in "Roses" for instance), they're not playing to their strengths. Robbed of the band's electronica instincts, songs like "Walk Into the Sun" and "Closer" lack personality and Steve Smith's vocals, thin at best, are too forward in the ultra-polished mix. Things improve slightly when a decent thump shows up on "A Million Ways," but it's not long before rhythm is banished once again. Disarmed of their primary weapon, Dirty Vegas sound way too clean. –Matthew Cooke

I can't believe I didn't get into this band much sooner. With One, if you're looking for a hardcore disco sound, you'll find it's not up to the same level as their earlier albums. But the songs are simply beautiful, with great lyrics, and it's a very soothing album with beautiful melodies. And, it will still keep you moving. The songs have great rhythm. I can't sit still listening to any of these songs. I highly recommend it.

It took me a while to warm up to, but I've found that the ones that take me awhile are the ones I love the most. The music on this disc is really phenomenal & the songs are great. I have a 47-mile drive to work & this is one of the staples in my car.
