As a huge fan of the Mr. Wolf Series, I had very high expectations for this book. Sadly, those expectations were not met, rather I was quite disappointed with the overall book. After reading the entirety of this graphic novel, my kids and myself both agreed that instead of this 240+ page book, we would've much rather a new Mr. Wolf book to follow-up on the series. Speechless was surprisingly bland , at times carrying on with unnecessary dialogue. While I appreciate the concept and effort made to bring awareness ( the issue Mira has ) , it's done in a way that doesn't feel like it makes sense through this book. The main character decided that she needs to take anxiety medication at this age? This is disturbing, never in the book did her parents ( both mom and dad ) make an effort to encourage her self-confidence or have a talk with her about her anxiety / self issues, isn't' that what parents do? . Seems they prefer her to just stay in her room with her tablet, confined to technology , which is very likely causing the issue of her speechless. Or go see a therapist for her "issue", regardless, kids this age should not be expected to have therapy sessions for issues that are normal when growing up. I would not recommend this book, but I would recommend the Mr. Wolf series ( such a fantastic read and mix of characters ) . I can see the author put lots of effort to create the story, something just seems unusually off about this whole book. After such an anticipated hype , speechless definitely left me speechless.
