We have used it to pack wounds on people and pets and not once has one of these become infected. After being attacked by by a 130lb Police K9 during an examination I resorted to Goldenseal instead of the ER. In our state, a dog would be euthanized for delivering a bite of this nature so I spared him the death sentence and treated the wound discretely at home. I used the contents of one capsule to pack the 2cm deep puncture wound and rubbed some of the powder into other punctures which were less deep the covered with bandaging. I also ingested 2 capsules 3x day for 5 days and there was no sign of infection. The wound healed with minimal scarring so I am pleased with the results.
