This book is very good at explaining concepts at a very basic level. So, if in your class a new concept is introduced and you have no idea what is going on, this book will get you on track. I have used this book inthis fashon and believe it to be worth the cost.One of the negatives is that the book sometimes introduces concepts out of logical sequence. A great example is in Ch. 3 where the author talks about Quantum Numbers several pages before a discussion of electron orbitals. A student who doesn't know anything about electron orbitals will have no clue what the author is talking about with respect to Quantum Numbers.That aside, a student using the book as a supplement to a chemistry class would probably look up "Quantum Numbers" in the index and turn to that section if they were have difficulties, rather than read the book from beginning to end.In summery, I'm glad I have the book and I'm using it as a review guide this summer to keep thoughts of chemistry fresh in my brain. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Great Help! I'm currently working towards a 2nd degree in Nursing, and am completing some pre-reqs before he HESI and applying to a program. The last time I had a Chem class was in H.S. (almost 10 yrs ago and I remember almost failing it!). I am now in an Intro to Chem class and, again, have had such trouble keeping up with & understanding the material! I pratically failed our 1st exam.After this book arrived, I immediately tore open the package, sat down, started reading & working out the practice problems. I have covered almost every subject from my class, since school began, and feel so much more confident in the subject just from from this evenings reading marathon than I have after 1 1/2 months of class lecture/lab/reading textbook/going to tutorials/etc. This book is 1/4 the size of my textbook! I would fall asleep reading that textbook; not so with this little gem!I recommend this book to anyone currently in an intro/beginner chemistry class, about to start a class, or even if you're just interested in chemistry. I did all the practice problem sets and tests and by the end, was prepared to take Gen Chem at a university. The explanations are clear, and the author is great at translated abstract ideas into everyday concepts. Please make a companion volume that's just more problem sets (with answers). The crucial info is also in bold and in green, so it's easy to find. Also, tables throughout are very helpful. The answers keys are at the back of each chapter, not after each problem, so you have a chance to solve on your own. And the author walks you through the steps of how to get the right answer, instead of just giving you a number, so you get to learn why you got it wrong (if you did!).
