The only time you need to worry is if the cable uses a Prolific chipset, then the OS might not have the required driver. Many chinese knockoff cables have a "defective" Prolific chipset and the standard driver for those won't work. It takes an old driver. The wise thing to do is any programming cable that is a serial interface, ensure it has an FTDI Chipset. **Q: Is the ic-10 chip still needed to connect a kenwood ts-440s using this cable?** A: I would consult other sources. I am pretty sure that the Kenwood's only put out the TTL level signals. That means you would have to install the IC-10 chips. You can find them and if your a ham, you better be able to install the chips. It takes less than 30 minutes and a couple of screw drivers to do it. Just get the two part numbers and find them online. They will cost you between $15 and 30. **Q: Is the hardware compatible with windos 8 and windows 10** A: Not sure about Windows 8, but I am running Windows 10 and it works great **Q: I have the cable. i can't seem to have it pass tx data, and rx data. it will only control the ts-450s ptt and frequency. please help. thank you** A: I only use it to control hf rig. I have external unit connected to transmit and speaker on hf rig to computer to control data transmit, and receive. The first one would send back a bunch of garbage data until I rebooted the radio and was returned. The second one would not get the radio to respond at all.
