## Overview

The Sawyer Micro Squeeze Water Filtration System is a professional-grade, ultra-lightweight portable filter that removes 99.99999% of harmful bacteria, 99.9999% of protozoa, and 100% of microplastics using a 0.1 micron hollow fiber membrane. Weighing only 2 ounces and rated for up to 100,000 gallons, it’s engineered for durability and convenience with included accessories, making it the ultimate hydration solution for hiking, travel, and emergency preparedness.

## Description

The Sawyer Micro Squeeze Water Filtration System is a lightweight, portable water filter designed for hiking, camping, travel, and emergency preparedness. This squeeze water filter removes 99.99999% of bacteria such as Salmonella, Cholera, and E. coli, 99.9999% of protozoa including Giardia and Cryptosporidium, and 100% of microplastics, providing safe, clean drinking water from lakes, rivers, streams, and faucets worldwide. The filter uses 0.1 micron absolute filtration, meaning no pore is larger than 0.1 microns, which physically blocks harmful contaminants while allowing clean water to pass through. Performance is verified by independent laboratory testing, including Hydreion, LLC (Microbiological Report S05-03) and certified labs Aquadiagnostics Laboratories and Envirotek Laboratories (S1–2512B-12512C; S3–12514-12514A). At the core of the Sawyer Micro Squeeze is a hollow fiber membrane system made of thousands of tiny tube-like fibers. As water is pushed through these fibers, bacteria, protozoa, cysts, and microplastics are trapped on the outside walls while clean water flows through the center. These hollow fiber membranes are engineered with thicker walls and a smaller inner diameter, making them up to 75% stronger than standard membranes, as tested by the Clean Water Institute of Calvin University (July 2018). This durable construction allows aggressive backwashing to restore up to 98% of the original flow rate, extending the life of the filter up to 100,000 gallons with no cartridges to replace. The included 32 ounce standard pouches are collapsible, reusable, pack down small. Fill directly from lakes, rivers, and streams, even in shallow water sources. Made from soft polyethylene material, the pouch is both lightweight and rugged for repeated outdoor use. Paired with the Sawyer Micro Squeeze filter, it creates a compact, all-in-one hydration solution—simply fill the pouch, attach the filter, and drink directly or squeeze filtered water into another container for convenient, on-the-go use. This portable water filter is compact, lightweight, and ideal for backpacking, survival kits, and international travel. For safety and quality assurance, every Sawyer Micro Squeeze filter is individually tested three times during manufacturing—once after fiber construction and twice after final assembly—to ensure no harmful pathogens can pass through the sealed system or internal O-rings. The fully enclosed fiber design also protects against damage that could compromise filtration performance. Sawyer Products has been a trusted leader in water filtration since 1984, providing advanced solutions for clean drinking water worldwide and supporting global humanitarian efforts to expand access to safe water.

Review: My new favorite filtration kit - I had read that the included squeeze bags aren't that great and can break easily, so I swapped it out for a Dunkive 2L squeeze bag instead. The flow feels pretty good. With this combo, I can realistically filter about 70oz in about 2 minutes. The filter and bag together weigh only about 5 or 6oz and packs down tiny. Filters faster and is a much lighter, smaller package than the Grayl and MSR filters I've used. Will have to see how it performs in the field, but I'm happy so far. Update July 2026: This filter works well but caring for it is tedious. There's is a fine line between it filtering well or nearly not at all, and that line is determined by how well it is prepped before use and flushed after use. I used this filter in the fall 2025 to filter some lake water that wasn't muddy or silty. I flushed the filter with tap water after use and dried thoroughly before storage. Fast forward to a multi-day backpacking trip this summer and the filter would hardly filter any water at all. No matter how hard I squeezed, I could only get a few drops out of it. After waiting a day, it seemed to work a little better but still very restricted. I ended up using it in a gravity fed configuration to filter water over time while I went and did other things. 5 of us on the trip had these filters and 3 of us experienced this issue. Lessons learned: After returning home and doing some research, I ended up soaking the filter in warm vinegar for 30 minutes to breakup any buildup. I then used a smart water bottle and the sp150 coupler to forcefully flush the filter with distilled water. Online resources said flushing with tap water could clog the filter with mineral deposits. A lot of debris came out, but seemed to clear up after using about 2L of water and was flowing normally again. Further research seemed to indicate that these filters need to be soaked in water to properly activate the filter fibers before use. If I do all these things perfectly, hopefully the filter will continue working for many more years!
Review: Does the job - Has good flow and doesn't take forever to get a drink, unlike the smaller sized one. Great product

## Questions & Answers

**Q: How is the flow rate compared to Mini and Squeeze?**
A: Much better than mini and I’d say close to squeeze

**Q: Will it thread onto a platypus hydration bag for clean water storage/carry?**
A: The platypus products do not always fit our filters well. Our filters and pouches use the standard 28 mm threading.

**Q: Is this the same filter that is on the select systems s1, s2, s3?**
A: It looks like it's the same filter. The bottle the primary and the micro the secondary.

**Q: How much does just the filter weigh (dry, before any use)?**
A: On my scale it weighs 1.83 oz out of the box.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Does the job

Has good flow and doesn't take forever to get a drink, unlike the smaller sized one. Great product

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Even I Can Use It
*by D***G on May 24, 2025*

I am not an outdoor enthusiast by any means. But I do believe in being prepared. I was putting together an emergency evacuation Go Bag and wanted a water filter that was reliable and easy to understand how to use. I watched a number of youtube videos and saw that the Sawyer was recommended over and over. Even I can understand how to use it. So I got one for my bag and one for my husband's bag. I practiced with the product and it really is easy. Impressed with how tiny it is, too.
