I wash my paint brushes well and have never had any rust or buildup in the bristles. **Q: Are these good for varnish?** A: Yes very good. The bristles stay in tack and do a great job. I gave purchased several if these. **Q: What size are the brushes?** A: The flat brush is 3 inches, the angle brush is 2-1/2 inches. I didn’t want time to use my expensive brushes for anything that requires cleaning with paint thinner. I purchased two packs of these for less than the price.
