I don't plan to get into the tactics of laser use in this review, there are reams of training material both for and against the use of visible laser specifically. I have used a number of the military issue IR lasers including the PEQ2, 15 and 18 and am a firm believer in the use of IR lasers as force multipliers. I saw the effects of night visions goggles combined with IR lasers in Iraq and owning the night. So with the advent of civilian legal IR lasers I knew I wanted one for my personal rifle. I also don't wear NODs all the time and wanted the addition of a visible laser. The green laser is night and day better than the classic red laser. It is fast to pick up for the human eye and both brighter and carries farther. It is daylight visible up close to 25-50 yards under most conditions and at night literally will carry on for miles. The IR laser is .7MW where military issue is 5MW. That said using a PVS14 I was able to see and hit steel plates out to 200 yards, which is about as well as I can do under the same condition with the military grade IR laser. The DBAL has two settings for each laser, high and low IR and visible. Both are activated by a pressure switch which comes with the laser, or a 'fire' button on the housing. Also the Streamlight/Insight tape switches will work. I currently have mine set up with a Surefire dual APTIAL/Surefire tape switch to run the DBAL and Surefire visible/IR weapon light. (

The laser has a constant on option as well by pressing the pressure pad or button twice quickly. The lasers are zeroed individually. This means you will need to bring it out with NODs to zero the IR laser. I prefer when the visible/IR lasers are zeroed in tandem. But I've used enough issue sights to know that isn't always the case either and you should always confirm the zero of an IR with NODs.The sight itself using the same housing as the military issue DBAL and should prove sufficiently rugged for anything to include military use. I've never had to contact LDI for repairs for any items, but they have been very polite and quick to answer any technical questions I've had. So I have a good feeling about their customer service. The mount is of the quick detach variety and has built in adjustments to tighten to rails that may be slightly out of milspec without issue. I've used it on KAC, Centurion and LaRue rails with no issues, as well as the polymer MP15-22 rail. All and all I am very impressed with this sighting system. If you are not going to make use of the IR laser LDI has a single visible laser model in both red and green for around $500-700s. If there is a possibility you will make use of the IR function then this is a very well priced piece of equipment that should stand up to some hard use while giving a shooter/hunter more capability.
