Read a lot of reviews on wick soaking so I put the whole wick in the paraffin for 4 hrs. Filled it up, was a little tricky getting the wick housing to seat but I think it's just a tight fit.I also read a lot about it smoking. This seems to be true in that as you turn it up it will inevitably smoke. I found setting the flame to just below the dome mesh protector there is no smoke. This still gives off good heat and to be fair it's only for frost protection not a heater. Yes the wick can go high but it will smoke like any wick would. If you want heat buy a heater.Mine did pop and blow it self out a few times but it seems to have settled now and has been burning all night.So its been ok so far but i will be back with more once i put this in my allotment greenhouse ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ 4.0 out of 5 stars Can be made to work well *by R***N on Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 14 November 2014* As many people have mentioned, the slot for the wick adjuster should be an inverted L shape. This can be fixed quite easily by drilling two holes and cutting/filing them to extend the slot sideways.The burner to tank fitting on my heater is the push-fit metal-to-metal type, which is good. However, I found that the burner kept going out. Having observed it indoors for a while, I noticed that every now an then, the flame flashes upwards. Sometimes after such a flash, the flame does not re-ignite, which is why it goes out.Turns out there is a sizable gap between the body of the burner section and the rectangular piece that holds the wick. Below this gap is an empty chamber, which is exposed to the wick. What happens is that the paraffin slowly vaporizes from the wick into the chamber and when it reaches a certain concentration, it ignites, producing that flash.To stop this from happening, one must close that gap. I did this by covering the burner top with heat resistant aluminium tape and cutting out a rectangular hole for the wick. Now only the wick is exposed to the flame. My burner has been operating continuously at low flame for a long time now.We shouldn't need to make these modifications; Parasene please take note of the user feedback.
