Just what I needed
I would like to take a multi-day raft trip. I'm more interested in scenery and a relaxing time than I am in white-water craziness. What are my options? This book does a great job of surveying America's rivers, with descriptions of still-natural (undammed) river stretches throughout the country. It includes information on severity of rapids (Class 1 to 5), describes scenery, lists mileages, and has a nice map on the inside cover showing locations. Also lots of pretty pictures. It is just what I needed to zero in on likely possibilities. The author does give some ideas about outfitters, but I imagine now that I know where I want to go (or have it narrowed to a couple possibilities) I will research those options on-line. An excellent reconnaissance book. Useful for people that do want the big rapids, or who want to canoe or kayak rather than raft, and those who want to control their own show (not hire a guide).

Most beautiful and comprehensive survey of river trips in America.
Perfect for people who love river journeys by canoe, kayak, or raft. My wife and I spend our summers doing multi day boat trips. This book is both detailed and inspiring, serving as a planning resource and starting point for all the great river trips in America. A lot of this information is extremely hard to find online.

Love it!!!
My fiend and I are trying to plan our first multi-day paddling trip. I bought this book to learn about various options throughout the country and also to see the beautiful photography. Incidentally, I also bought his hiking book, too! The photos are, indeed, gorgeous. But the information is also fabulous. You aren’t going to get super in depth about any one water way, but you get plenty enough to help you decide if a trip is right for you.

Where's my Paddle?!?
Rivers fascinate me. What is normally an obstacle for a hiker becomes a highway for the paddler. On a good river, you get an amazing scenic tour of hard to reach places and all you really have to do is keep your boat straight. This book will whet your paddling appetite and ignite your imagination. You'll be dreaming of loading your boat onto your roof rack and heading into the wilderness for a few days. It is a thick, heavy book with jaw-dropping photography and the perfect blend of photos vs. information. It covers the entire country from coast to coast and provides just enough river data to help you decide which trip to research in earnest. I actually checked this out from our local library but I want a copy for myself. A+!!!
