How To Make Easy Money Selling Your Old Used Books On Amazon
J**L
A very good primer. Basic but worth the price.
I've been selling used books and audio cds on Amazon for several years, but like a lot of people, I only do it irregularly and have never made much of an effort to turn it into a real business. But the economy being what it is (and my house being full to the ceiling with books anyway), I thought this would be a worthwhile read--and it was. It's basic, but basic is sometimes a good place to start even if you have some experience.I'm giving this book five stars because I think the author made an honest effort to share all of the knowledge that he has about selling used books and he provides some good tips that will probably make you money and save you time. For one, he suggests trying to get a thousand books up for sale if you want to create a steady income and I think that is profoundly good advice. If you're going to just toss up a few books now and then this book will still help you, no doubt, but you won't make regular income. The author is also very honest (to his credit when you consider the wild and ridiculous claims a lot of Kindle authors make about various topics) about just how much money can be made here. His estimate is that you can probably easily earn $10-30/day if you are careful about the books you buy (and how much you pay for them--but I'll let him explain that to you) and I think that is a fair and reasonable range. You will have better days (and worse days, trust me), but that's a pretty solid estimate and if you are good when it comes to choosing books to sell and very devoted, you might make more. It's a business like and like any business, what you get out of it is proportionate to what you put into it.My main criticism of this book (and I think this is true of almost all Kindle books) is that the author should have hired a professional editor to read this and make some (minor) corrections. Things like missing words and words all in UPPER CASE annoy me--but I have been a writer and editor for 40 years, so naturally that bothers me. If you're going to publish Kindle books (and I'll address this to anyone thinking of doing that) then for heaven's sake, spend a couple of bucks to have an editor copy edit your book. Your friends might mean well when they offer to read it and proof it, but you need a professional if you want a quality product. His errors aren't completely annoying or anything (again, they are mostly minor), but the writing and grammar could be tighter. Also, he tends to try and make the book a bit longer by wasting pages talking about things like naming your business (I don't think anyone on Amazon gives a darn what you call your business). I'd much rather have had more examples about how and where he buys his stock and perhaps some specific examples of which titles sold well and which ones didn't. If he wants to pad for space, fine, all writers do it a bit--but try to find some interesting sub-topics or anecdotes. Again, to his credit this author is very honest in what he shares--he's not trying to hide anything--but more examples might be nice. Perhaps he can get even more specific in future updates. I'm sure he will. Finally, like a lot of Kindle authors he spends the final pages (many of them) promoting his own site. And that's fine, but the link appears so often it's actually annoying by the end.Still, overall, if you're thinking of selling books on Amazon, this is worth the price and then some--buy it and don't look back. I read it in one sitting (during Hurricane Sandy!) and was glad I spent the money and made the effort. Sell one book on Amazon and you'll probably get your money back--not a bad deal.

It's all about margins
Not a bad primer to get you started selling, but beware of the book's fatal flaw: Watch your margins! Another reviewer points it out, and it's worth repeating. The author recommends you go to the post office with your orders AND to pay them for delivery confirmation. If you do this, you will most likely cut your margin by more than half in excess postage fees, gas, and time spent in the endless post office line.Use technology to save time and bucks by utilizing Amazon's postage service. Delivery confirmation is only .19 and the service fee is .07 - a far cry from the .85 charged at the PO. You print your own label, slap it on and drop it in your own mailbox. DON'T buy adhesive labels; rather, print your label on regular paper, trim it and glue it down with Elmer's extra adhesive glue stick (the PO doesn't recommend taping a label as scanners might not be able to read the barcode). Your overall margin using paper, ink and glue sticks will be much better than using adhesive labels. If you have a load of orders, only then take them to the PO and drop them off - no waiting in line and wasting your time.Other than that (and the author's unfortunate sloppy grammar and typos inherent in amateur DIY Kindle books) the author offers good advice on sourcing, what sells and what doesn't, and pricing. Best advice is to never buy for more than .50 and never sell for less than $6.00. Don't be fooled by the .01 book scams offered by the phantom sellers. Books with multiple .01 offers are worthless. If you can't get $6.00 MINIMUM for a used or new book, then don't list it. Donate or trash it; it's not worth your time.

Nice!
This book is well detailed on how to start and run a book resale business on Amazon. I liked how candid the writer was about the ups and downs of the business...the nitty gritty of the daily running of his book business.I want to try this starting with my humongous library of books. I am sure there are a few I can make decent money on. This book inspires you not to be a penny seller. I didn't want to work a hard as penny seller must work to make a little money. I'd rather make decent money on the ones I do put up, then donate the others, at the same time also doing some other businesses. I don't expect to make a living off this business but I think the information in this book can help me to choose and price properly what I can sell, and to help me donate the rest.

Good Info For The Newbie
This book is full of good info for someone who has never sold books on Amazon, but is interested in giving it a whirl. He gives good solid info that is definitely helpful. My only problem is the typos, grammar errors, missing words, missing suffixes, etc. It is distracting to try and read something when the typos stop you because you're trying to figure out what the point is, and find that there are a few words missing from the sentence. It's not as bad as some books out there - the author is definitely using standard American English, so it is readable. But I would recommend if you're not a good writer/editor/proofreader, just sending the manuscript to someone on fiverr. Depending on length of book, you could have it fixed up for $15 to $30 probably.

Not Bad for a Beginner
I bought the paperback (new) so I can't comment on the Kindle version. Seller shipped quickly and I received this book in good order and time. This is a very easy read with a nice sized text. The author really needs to edit better though. There are many odd sentences and grammar errors throughout the book, which is distracting. The information is mostly recent enough to be usable, although there are some things that are several years old. There is a lot of information that is for US only. Having said that, there are many ideas that will work for you wherever you live. I liked the interviews because they gave a different perspective on some subjects. All-in-all a decent book for anyone planning on starring to sell used books on Amazon. I gave 4 stars because editing is important to me and shows me how much an author cares about the finished book.

Informative and useful
I liked the straight style and clear information presented. As a beginning seller of books on Amazon.de, I found his advice to keep the books ordered, how to describe them, and his comments on what tends to sell, quite relevant and interesting. However, I suspect the book may present too optimistic a picture of this activity in the current economic climate.
