Great Sound

These roundwound strings are great sounding on a darker sounding bass, like my P-bass. They're slightly brighter than nickel roundwounds, but not as bright as stainless steel roundwounds. They're coated strings, so the one thing that surprised me is that they have more finger noise than the other major brand of coated strings I've used, but their tone is great, IMO.

I have these strings on all of my basses and have used them for a couple of years now. They are by far my favorite strings I’ve ever had and I will keep using them as long as they are available. They have a slightly dark yet rich tonal quality that fits my taste perfectly. The coating is pretty decent although if you’re aggressive or you play with a pick it will flake off after a short time. I’ve found these to be durable, long lasting, and very consistent from set to set. Have not had a set yet with any dead spots or inconsistency. The tone is not overly bright but it’s not thumpy or dead either. Personally I love these. You’ll pay a little more but you won’t go wrong with Rotosound. In my opinion the quality exceeds any other brand I’ve tried. Drawback is that they’re slightly more expensive than some others, but for the longevity....totally worth it. (For reference all installed on MIA and MIM Fender basses).

I hate flats people love them I hate them you want the true harmonic town no loss of volume on a fretless bass these will not chew up the neck the wrapping a soft almost like half rounds

Nice punchy bass strings. They seem to hold their sound for a good while, even with my toxic sweat. And when they do go dead, and lose the zinginess, they still have a certain.....character to 'em. Love em, I pretty much use them on all my basses.

my first go with Rotosound - will not be my last - I thought I would try coated Nexus on an old Ibanez Gio I keep hidden from my wife in the living room - just to keep handy - these strings have a great feel and the tone makes the old Gio sound like it has some soul

I have these on my four string Bass and PSDs on my five stringer and i love this set so much, it has a warm tone, close to that of flatwounds, the price could be worse and they feel as good as they sound. The only problem is that when they wear down, you can tell what string you give the most attention to for sure.

First of all, if you're trying to go for an all-black 'stealth' vibe on your bass, go directly for the DR Black Beauties instead-they're currently not much more in price than these and they are ALL black. The brightly coloured cotton binding on the ends of the strings really kills the whole stealth aesthetic.Secondly and most importantly, the coating comes off way too easily. If you use picks then it will definitely come off but I switch between fingers and picks to play & the steel started showing through after only one rehearsal session. Again, this is another reason to go for the DR strings - the coating lasts a much longer time.I did notice an increased grounding hum when I changed to these strings from the old ones, I suspect the coating is preventing decent conduction between the bridge and the strings - I had to do a little paint scraping from the bottom of the bridge to make a better connection with the earth wiring and thread a wire through the ball ends which helped reduce the noise.On the plus side, there's a nice bright zing on them when you play which might not be for everyone but works great for me and while I'm not experiencing full 'buyers regret' for getting these over the DR's first just to save a few pounds due to the tone being pretty good, I wouldn't buy them again.

I've always used Rotosound strings. They're reliable, hard-wearing and sound great. The black coated strings have seemed like a bit of an indulgence. They're just Rotosound bass strings, but black. However, they look really cool on my black Precision. Unfortunately, as some other reviewers have pointed out here, the coating does rub off. After one extended session, the coating on the G had rubbed away. It makes no difference to the sound, but it's a bit disappointing that it comes off quite so easily. Probably best to just stick to regular round-wound strings.

I've been a regular user of RS-66 strings and decided on getting these for a change. They are essentially the same, but with a black coating. I haven't tried them long enough to find out if they do last longer (I have quite acidic sweat, so it shouldn't take too long!), but I noticed almost from the get go that the coating started to wear off on the G, between the pickup (P-bass style) and the bridge. They sound almost identical to the '66, but with slightly less harmonic in the upper high frequencies. Not maximum stars, but only because the coating is coming off fairly quickly.

They strings look and sound great, but if you have single coil pickups you may have some earthing issues and crackling due to the strings being coated. The best solution I've found was to get an anti static bracelet for PC building and clip it to your saddle, solved everything and the bass now sounds great.
