KSMA 60 Minutes Metal Hourglass,1917 Vintage One Hour Glass Timer with Sand

First off, I should have read the specs more carefully because this hourglass is enormous. I imagined it being about 6" tall, but it's the size of a paper towel roll!The brass color is lovely and I like being able to flip the hourglass without having to pick it up. It doesn't empty to clear glass, but leaves some granules in the top (with a finger tap they fall down though).My only complaint is that it's not a 60-minute timer. I used a stopwatch app and mine ran through in 43 min 15 sec. I'd hoped to use this as a classier version of the "pomadoro method," and I still can, but closer to 60 minutes would've been preferred.I should mention that it looks really classy on my desk or bookshelf.Hope that's helpful.

 I've been redecorating my office and loved the look of this hour glass, it looks and feels like brass and contrary to what another person said, this is glass. I've also tested it and to my surprise the hourglass timed at exactly 60 minutes. It only rotates on 1 axis, which you can loosen or tighten depending on how easily you want it to rotate. I love the uniqueness of it.

This is a really cool looking hourglass!!I will be completely honest, I will never use this to measure time, but it sure does look really cool!!! The hourglass arrived very quickly and was extremely well packaged. Even if this package was dropped from 10 ft, it would have not broken or cracked. I purchased the full hour glass which comes in measuring at 10.5” which looks really cool next to our front door. My wife has a lot of different old school looking books so we placed the hourglass on top of those and it looks AWESOME! I purchased the antique gold so it has a nice rustic look to it. We had some friends come over and quickly started playing with the hourglass and gave us all kinds of compliments. This would make a great gift and would look amazing in any living room, bedroom, basement, or study!!

Well-made glass and metal frame and packaged nicely. The "sand" is a very dark, blackish rose color. As an artist, my opinion is the hue of the sand does not compliment the antique gold finish of the metal frame surrounding the glass. Most of the web photos of this hour glass showed white or grayish white sand in it, so that is what I was expecting. After receiving my order and being surprised at the sand color, I double checked the photograph displayed online. Then I noticed there was, in fact, 1 hour glass shown with the same dark blackish sand that I had received. Shame on me for not seeing that before. My professional opinion is the cold sand color should coordinate better with the warm metal color. I purchased this as a gift for someone who probably won't notice the color argument going on, so I am not sending it back; everything else about it is great. It is a 60-minute hour glass and was accurate to within 1 minute. The sand did not stick to the sides of the glass as reviews of other brands noted. The sand slides smoothly and cleanly down the inside glass. The ghoulish color of the sand is my only negative point.

My daughter wanted an hourglass for Christmas....I asked for a link and she told me she would not let me off that easily (girls....eeesh). Being a responsible Dad, sensitive to the needs of my 20 something daughter I did what ever any responsible loving, caring father would do in a time of crisis....I turned to Amazon! Reading the reviews, looking at eBay, google, some various web sites I kept coming back to this hourglass. Knowing that my time was limited and I could not afford the hourglass from the set of the Wizard of Oz (eh eh eh my pritty) I purchased this hourglass. It arrived in perfect condition and to say my daughter was pleased would be an understatement. Believe it or not she uses it in medical school to time her quiz practice sessions.......somehow, in todays age of electronics, cell phones, and digital everything I find a glimmer of satisfaction that she would result to such antiquated technology in such a fast moving profession. But then again she carries my DNA.....poor thing. It is a nice hourglass...buy it....you will be glad you did.

I love this hourglass. As others have mentioned, I went with the aged brass patina and it looks vintage. Also, the sand is NOT white, but a beautiful brownish with speckles. While that might be a deal breaker for some, I’d encourage you to look at my picture. It’s not dirty sand, just kind of unique and almost irradecent.

Nice looking vintage piece. A little bigger than it looks in the pictures though.hope they can put more protect stuff like airbags in The box,so the glass will not be broken through the delivery.

This is the second I ordered - I bought one for myself and a friend loved it so this one was a gift. It's a heavy piece, feels solid, and really has an antique look. The sand is a brown color that I like - it works with the design of the piece. Love it.
