It works well on my size of valve. I had to cut off the plastic covering on the valve handle, but that is not a problem. Be sure to get a corrosion proof padlock. This device will not stop a determined person since it is plastic and can be sawed off, but it serves serious notice not to fiddle with the valve.

This lock worked over a marelon marine ball valve to secure the over discharge valve. The plastic body of the lock was easily modified to fit over the valve body

The model number shown in the specifications (BS01R) is not the model that is pictured. If the model that I received was shown in the picture I would not have ordered it.

After spending beaucoup $ to install a backup generator, I figured it would be a shame if some neighborhood kid shut off the gas. It was easy to find the right gizmo to prevent just that. This device fits easily over the gas pipe and provides a lock for the valve handle. All you need add is a standard 1/4" padlock. You might have to pull off the valve handle and reverse it, a simple chore - depends on how your piping configuration lines up. Installation - including flipping my gas shutoff handle over - took under 5 minutes. Well worth the peace of mind.
