It's okay with some caveats...
This book was a good idea with cute drawings and written instructions including paint swatches for recommended colors to use. The pages are supposed to be "perforated" but are actually sewn in and don't have a true perforation for removal. It's supposed to be perforated so you can paint each drawing and remove the pages for framing. I'm not sure how many people would want to take the book apart but if you do, just know it's not a true perforation. And you loose the instruction sheets because they are on the back of the sketches. The "premium watercolor paper" that it's printed on is very much like student grade paper. The way the book is bound, one sketch will be on textured paper and the next sketch is on non-textured all the way through the book. This means half the sketch pages are like cold press and half are like hot press paper. The texture or lack of texture can make a difference in the outcome of your painting.

Adorable, but...
...she mixed up Raw Umber, which is a cold greenish-brown, with Burnt Umber, a warm reddish brown. If you use her color picks, you will get weird (and ugly) results. Shame on the author and the copy editor. I'll bang the layout person too--he or she should know the difference between the two colors and should have brought it to someone's attention. (Being a layout person myself, I've done this often when I've recognized an error that was passed over during early production). Color mix-up aside, the book is kind of sweet. The illustrations have been simplified to enable beginners to at least approach the results with some degree of success. However, I would strongly recommend tracing the drawings and transferring them to external sheets. The paper isn't terrible, but it's not 100% cotton, so it's not very forgiving. If you mess up the original drawing, you can't fix it.

A lovely tutorial on "In the Forest" themed watercolor painting. A real gem!
Today I received Watercolor with Me In The Forest book by Dana Fox! It is even better than I Imagined it would be! I really like the simple yet beautiful color palette. Each piece requires just a few watercolors, with very useful and easy to follow instructions. The illustrations are inspirational and well thought out. I will update my review and add photos after I've completed a few of the projects! As promised - here is my update! Updating to 5 stars! I am really enjoying this Forest themed watercolor book. Dana’s projects are uncomplicated and easy to follow. Some projects are easy and some give me the opportunity practice new techniques. For example: the fawn was a welcome challenge to practice painting fur. The beginning of the Painting Fur section provides easy to follow practice instructions before you begin painting one of the many forest animals. And there’s lots of other wonderful forest creatures in this section for you to continue practicing painting fur.

You will not be disappointed with this book
Art books are my little addiction, I send about half back because they are so bad. This book is great finally something I can appreciate.Animals, flowers and plants oh my! You can either sketch the pictures yourself or paint right in the book on the ready to paint sketch. The paper is 100lb watercolor paper. Dana is a great artist and keeps it simple. I was so sick of getting books that I can draw better than the artist some of the books have been remedial at best lately and cost more than this book. MHG

LOVE this more than I'd hoped
I bought this because I liked the pictures and the artist's style. I hadn't realized this would be printed on watercolor paper for readers/students to practice techniques with the author's sketches. What a lovely format ... I couldn't help but dive right in. She tells you just what colors to use, how to mix them, and where to paint in step-by-step instruction. I'm usually one to think I can figure things out myself, but her tips are so helpful! I especially love how much I'm learning about painting fur, building up better layers, and when NOT to use my ink pen. :) I'd buy a whole series of these.

Beautiful book
I love Dana Fox's watercolor videos...so when I saw she had a book coming out I pre-ordered it. The book was delivered today and it exceeded my expectations. Such good quality, simple sketches with very straightforward instructions. The book lays flat and the paper is good quality so I am looking forward to practicing my watercoloring. I haven't even started working in the book yet but wanted to post because it is such a treat to have a purchase exceed your expectations.

Lot's of fun while learning skills
I am new to painting, in general. Basics are covered, wet on dry, wet on wet, fur, ink and wash. I've completed the first few pages and feel confident, I can finish. It's like a single subject, watercoloring book as images are provided. Paper does make a difference. Drawings are simple enough to create on desired paper. But, as I paid for the book, I'll gladly use what's given. This book is an easier guide than many other books on the subject that I've purchased. I recommend it for motivated newcomers. I don't seem to have all the colors, but I'll use what I have, i.e. all prima marketing sets, a koi field set, an $8 set from Michael's. I find that Grumbacher brushes are excellent. I have a tiny detail brush as well. To transfer image to paper of choice, make a copy, trace from back with pencil. Then, place on new paper, and go over lines with a pen. The graphite will transfer the image. Plus, you can have as many do overs as needed.

Watercolour with Me by Dana Fox
An inspirational book with lovely examples of natural subjects. Examples very quick to complete so ideal as an introduction to the medium. Easy to follow instructions but no explanation as to technique so a book for beginners only. Would recommend as a 'have a go' exercise to try out watercolour.

Gorgeous books
Had In The Forest and In The Ocean for a Christmas gift yesterday and I completed my first project today! I absolutely love them. Laid out beautifully and such lovely watercolour projects especially for a beginner like me who is also learning drawing / sketching for the first time. This really allows you to focus on the watercolour painting skills. Super excited to work through both books. Paper is maybe student quality but I’m happy enough with it and I think it would be way too heavy with a thicker paper.
