Does not sit flat on the table, needs padding, but does the job well
Although it does look like something I could have made myself, if I had a wood shop which I do not, it does the job nicely. Two things I had to adapt, however, which is why I gave it 4 stars. First, the wood needs some padding in between it and the pages, or it will leave a mark, so I added sticky-back felt on each side. Second, the bolts have large rounded heads, so this does not sit flat on the table. It rolls backwards, which bends the pages a little. Probably not enough to be permanent, but at this stage I prefer to keep everything as flat as possible. So I put a book underneath the wood, in between the bolts, to raise the bolt heads above the tabletop while keeping the wood, and pages, level. Since I only do a book now and then, I appreciate that it keeps the pages in place while gluing, was less expensive than an official book press, and takes up very little space in storage.

Works
It works like i thought it would. You do need to put a second coat of glue on but it works for what i needed.

It's nothing special
If you don't have access to a drill or know someone who can use a drill, then this might be worth it. If you have a drill and a hardware store, this is something that can be made very easily at home.

A waste of money- make your own!
I really expected something better than just two pieces of raw wood, two bolts, two washers, two wingnuts and no instructions. I had all of those things in my shed and it wouldn't have cost almost $50 to make one and buy padding glue and a $2 brush. Save your money! Definitely not worth what they are charging for this 'kit'.

Missing parts
The wing nuts are missing, and a set of tips or directions would have been a nice touch.
