Poor quality control
I like the action, it's fiberglass which is much more enjoyable to fish than graphite for me, but the guides don't line up at all with the little dots on each section, and a few guides don't line up even within the same section. They're wonky as hell. Everything else is OK quality and build wise. I would return it if I wasn't leaving on a trip tomorrow morning.

You need this.
Are you here because you're wondering if you need a 1wt rod? Are you thinking "I'm not sure if this will hold up, but I'm interested"? This is pretty much how I was thinking before purchasing this rod. And I have to say, while it can be just a bit tedious to learn the action of the rod for casting, it handles fish amazingly. The rod feels incredibly delicate until you have a fish on the end of it. Then you realize how much it will actually handle. Largest trout I've caught so far on this 1wt is about 20" long at 2.5-3lbs and I caught three of them yesterday. This rod make the smaller fish still fun to play with and it can handle larger fish just fine. listening to the fiberglass creak in your hand when the rod is next to your head and you're reeling is a bit spooky at first but I only noticed the sound the first time I took it out. I have fished this rod fairly hard for two days and just love it to death. It's an absolute blast and by far my new favorite for short casts. If you think you need something to cast a longer distance, you may want to look elsewhere, but these rods really are fantastic, and hey, lifetime warranty if the fish is ever too big haha Highly recommend this rod for people that are considering going a bit lighter to see how it feels.

Really sweet rod, one small problem
I love this fly rod. I have used it many times and caught lots of great fish with it. The only bummer is one piece fly off when you cast sometimes because it loosens over time, it's probably fixable but really annoying. Other than that totally recommended!

feels great to cast, solid quality
reviewing the 8’ 8wtbought this rod because it was on sale and i was looking for some glass in the 7wt range. i figured the 8wt would handle my 1.5x and 2x line size heavy 7wt lines and boy was i right. put a good size popper on with a sa bass bug 7wt line and it was casting perfectly. don’t be afraid to slightly “underline” with a technically overweight line. i have a 3wt and 5wt as well that are of great quality. love these glass rods.

Very flexible tip - requires exacting casting technique
I like slower rods. Fiberglass is a great modern (affordable) option to fit that bill, but there are different types of slow. Different types of fiberglass. The tip on this rod is extremely flexible and tends to oscillate at the end of the stroke unless you're really gentle with it. I mean REALLY gentle. This is one thing I didn't appreciate until I bought this rod.The more flexible the rod, (especially the tip) the less forgiving the rod is to casting faults. I have the 2 and 3 wt versions of this rod. Both are fun, but demanding to master. The tips are so flexible that "wind knots" are common if your timing is off just a fraction, or you try to overpower either the back or fore cast (very easy to do). Because of both the line weight and the flexible fiberglass rod, this isn't going to shoot line more than about 20 feet with consistent accuracy. These are not rods that are "pick up and cast well". Will take time to master the "feel". I have other fiberglass rods like the Orvis Superfine (an incredible rod) that has the slow "feel" but is far more tolerant when it comes to casting. That Orvis rod tip is not at all as flexible (noodly) as this one. These butter sticks seem like decent rods, but you get what you pay for. Rod seats are friction slides, not screw seats. I've never liked these friction slides but they seem to be common on even more expensive light weight rods (Scott F2 as another example).
