Great fun for our pup
I was wary of all these dog DNA tests from the negative reviews on Amazon, but had a good experience with DNA my dog. We recently adopted a small (<20lbs) tan colored mexican street dog. Knowing she could be a mix of a million things we were still curious about what would come up from a DNA test. We didn't provide any breed or age estimate after seeing the reviews on here, not wanting a test result influenced by our guesses. However, from photos we saw from her capture as a little puppy we knew she was around 11 months old at the time we collected the sample. As expected the test result yielded a variety of breeds: mainly Jack Russell and Rat terrier / German shepherd / corgi / border collie. After researching them it seems to make a lot of sense as her features and behaviors match those of the terriers, including the weird shrill bark she does like a rat terrier. The "genetic age" result arrived a bit later and I was impressed that it was close at 1 year, even though we didn't provide an age estimate. It makes sense that her genetic age might be a little greater given the rough early life she's had. Overall very happy with the DNA test and it was fun for us to learn a little more about our mystery mutt's possible lineage.

Results Are Highly Questionable
I bought two of these tests, one for each of my dogs. The results that I got back are highly suspect. They claim that the DNA of my new rescue dog is part Boxer and part Pembroke Welsh Corgi when he highly resembles a Basenji mix, right down to the curled tail. They claim lesser parts of Beagle and Poodle. Of course, they couldn't see the tell-tale Basenji curled tail in the picture that I uploaded, and I didn't tell them about that major trait. His coloring is similar to a Pembroke Welsh Corgi, which makes me wonder if they looked at his picture and made a best guess on his breed rather than performing the DNA test. This company also has the same product under two other company names, Dog DNA and DNA Affirm, and there is a review worth reading under DNA Affirm about this company, and other reviews there question the authenticity of the results as well. Since this company is in Canada, they are possibly not subject to the restrictions for false advertising that companies in the U.S. are. I just purchased another DNA dog test from a company here in the United States and will update this review upon learning those results. If I could get my money back for the two kits that I purchased, I would. I think this company is not a legitimate business.I just got back the results for the second dog I tested. I purchased this test to try to determine his age. He spent two years at the Rescue before I adopted him, and he was about 2 years old when he arrived there, and we have had him 8 years, so we figure that he is at least 12 years old. He is quite elderly with COPD, arthritis, cataracts, and a virus that produces warts that bleed. His picture I uploaded shows him fairly vibrant about five years ago. The report says his genetic age is 8 years old, which doesn't seem right at all given his current physical appearance. The DNA breed tests claim that he is part bloodhound, part pointer, part Golden Retriever, and part Rhodesian Ridgeback when in actuality he is actually a Black and Tan Coonhound purebred. I didn’t buy the test for his breed; I bought it to try to determine his actual age, which could be anywhere from 12-15 years old. I consider the money spent here a complete waste of money and would encourage others to use one of the other companies that do this test in the United States. They are more expensive, but I think they are legitimate businesses. I just purchase one from Embark for the newest Rescue and will update this review to see if their information contradicts this one.

Worked great! So much fun and a lot of info provided, wow!
Worked great. You should know that if you have a mixed breed like me, your results will come back in percentage ranges, such as 20%-36% Great Pyrenees. This is not an exact science. Anyway this was a Lot of fun! Not only did I receive 5 breeds and the percentage of each my dog might be, the company provided a good bit of info about each breed and their temperaments. Explained a lot lol. And they provided potential health issues my dog might be susceptible to, such as hip dysplaysia, and for each breed. I learned that my "bloodhound mix" was really 2/3 two different breeds of coon hound, and had some St. Bernard in him too. No wonder he's huge! Well worth the price, in my opinion. I will add that It was a little challenging to hold a large dog down to swap both the left and then later the right side of the inside of his cheeks for approx 30 or 45 seconds, I forget how long exactly, but it was such a challenging experience that it seemed like an eternity lol. The results were provided by email and website info within the 2 week period that was promised. I was disappointed that I did not receive his age, as promised. However, I would do this again. If my review helped you at all, pls do give me a helpful vote, thanks so much!

I question the outcome of this test!!
According to the test Lady is Maltese, Poodle, Bichon Frise, and LABRADOR RETRIEVER!When I adopted her she was advertised as a spaniel mix. That I could see - in fact she has markings like my springer spaniels, but is petite like a miniture spaniel (forget the breed name). She is very small however, 24#. I do not see (a) the coloring of any of the mentioned breeds (b) the coloring of any of the mentioned breeds (c) the coat of any of the breeds.... the ears??One thing about the test I did like was the discussion of telomeres and how that effects Canine Genetic Age.Can anyone explain any of the other questions about her breed though??

DNA Testing
I've used this brand before on my other dogs. As long as you follow the instructions exactly it should at least give you an idea what breeds your mutt is made of. When I did for Kitana, the results showed she was Great Pyr; however we know that one of Kitana's parents was a Heeler. So that was a misnomer; however Great Pyr and Heeler are herding breeds so we adjust our training accordingly. This DNA test is for our baby boy, we adopted almost 4 years ago. I finally got around to getting this done. I know for sure he's border collie mix with Bernese Mountain as they seem to dominate; however, it would be interesting to see what else in the results. Again, understanding and adjusting my training accordingly.

So happy with results
I’m very happy with the results and the detailed report received. It did take a while, but I put that down to living in Australia and postage times. It is worth the wait! Always wanted to know what my rescue puppy was and the breeds make so much sense. Still awaiting the age test but I’m sure it won’t be much longer and I’m sure the report will be just as detailed and easy to read. Thanks team for providing me these details. Highly recommend.

Highly implausible (and incomplete) results at best...
But more likely a complete scam. Also, I purchased this kit specifically for the genetic age of my pet but that has not been received. Thankfully, they did confirm that my 8lb mixed breed isn't part wolf. Seriously?! I wanted to support a Canadian business but will be purchasing a different test from a more reputable company. Please, don't waste your money like I did.

Great service & speedy results!
I have used this kit twice now and both times had a very positive experience. The process is very simple & efficient. Their customer service & team are wonderful, always there to answer any questions you may have. The information you receive back with the results is very thorough and informative. I had my results back within two weeks of mailing off the sample and loved finding out both my rescue dog's breed! A very cool & professional service....and Canadian to boot!! I highly recommend their DNA testing services!

Tested three dogs
Didn’t accurately name two out of my three dogs’ breeds. One was completely off.Age detection on one dog meant he was born two years after I adopted him. Must just mean he is in awesome shape 😉
