Riveting read with a great hero
I didn't expect to like this book as much as I did. I kept waiting for Mickey Haller to turn up and put his special twist on the case, or for Harry Bosch to dive in and dig up the truth as only he can. That didn't happen. Instead, we have a one-woman wrecking crew of a hero who seems perfectly capable of taking on the bad guys all by herself, thank you very much. Yes, she's a thief. You'd think that would be pretty off-putting, but Connelly has a way of transforming all too human people into forces of nature we somehow care about. That's what happens here. Her cleverness was definitely the driving force behind the plot, and Connelly puts a great deal of time and effort into painstakingly explaining how she pulls off her various stunts. I can well imagine some readers finding this tedious and saying, "Get on with it." I didn't feel that way at all--I enjoyed the detail, just settled into it, and looked on it as part of her developing character. I don't want to give too much away, so I'll just say that the ending of this book--and it definitely builds to a true crescendo--is wonderfully satisfying. My pet peeve with most mysteries and detective books is that the author seems to run out of juice about ten pages shy of the ending, and just writes to get it over with. Always a mistake. Take heed, authors! Endings count! If the ending is no good, you might as well chuck the whole book. It's like planning a great dinner and then sitting down to discover you overgrilled the steak and no one can cut it. No amount of shopping, prep, ambiance, or great music makes up for that. Connelly is a master of great endings, and though this one didn't go quite the way I expected (or hoped), it was just right. Terrifically entertaining book, with one of the best female heroes in a long time. She's believable and not super-human, which makes her not only more likeable, but also more heroic. She leaves her cape at home and just gets it done.

Connelly cannot be beat....
Connelly is a superb crime drama author and I have read most of his books, no matter the protagonist or antagonist....always lots of twists and turns, surprises, and "wows". This book had them all, but the reason I didn't give this particular book a straight 5 star review, because the end, especially after the incredible journey he puts the reader through, the ending was a tad "weak"... but that is my opinion though. Connelly will always excel in his writing abilities and undisputedly has command of of what makes a crime drama , a crime drama.

Excellent one of book. So rich, no sequel needed.
Before I discovered Michael Conley as an author, I discovered him through his TV series, namely Bosch, which I enjoyed thoroughly. I was in a bit of a quandary because I wanted to read his novels and so many of them were about Bosch but I wanted something different. So I decided to look for those that had no SQL, his one of’s. Void Moon. It’s been along time since I enjoyed a novel as much as I did this one, and I am very thankful for having chosen it. On so many levels this book is entertaining challenging and interesting. I didn’t research it, but I imagine the void moon angle is not made up, and that little nugget was beautiful . His female lead was an irresistible combination of brains and vulnerability which left you laughing and gasping.at times.Plot great, characters great, resolution satisfying. Read it please, you won’t regret it.

OK but nothing spectacular
Void Moon, which was published in 2000, is another standalone from Michael Connelly, the creator of Harry Bosch and Mickey Haller. Although there is a loose connection to a previous Harry Bosch. This is a very interesting book that grabs the reader from the beginning. Hard to classify it as a detective novel, while there is a less than reputable private detective he is one of the bad guys. Maybe a fiction noir with a heist story. Close to the half-way mark, the book goes from heist caper to psychotic killer story, and it kicks into high gear. By the two-thirds mark, when it becomes a high-stakes kidnapping story, I was on the edge of my seat. This story doesn’t have the class and sophistication that his later work however it was both compelling and intriguing. I read it as part of the Harry Bosch Universe.

Cassie Black
In one of the author’s first forays outside the Harry Bosch series, he creates a sympathetic character in thirty-something Cassie Black. She has been out of prison for just a year after serving five for her part in targeting high rollers in Las Vegas. She’s been successful in selling high end cars in LA, but something abruptly comes up in her life that makes her see a need to score a large sum of money. As good as she was in her past life of crime, her life is about to become very precarious.Cassie draws upon her network of contacts from years before. It’s not long before a mark in a Las Vegas casino is identified. Even though her planning is extensive, she cannot know that hotel security systems have been stepped up since she was last involved. Suddenly, instead of being the hunter, she becomes the hunted. Now, she will have to use all of her wits to escape this predicament. The story is very interesting and seems realistic up to a point. Never underestimate how ruthless criminals and their ilk can be when money is involved. The plotting did get a little squirrely at the very end.

A good mystery novel depends on a good Author
I am a many years fan of Author, Michael Connelly's mystery novels. In my opinion, he is brilliant. He is a former journalist, winning many honors for his journalism, and diligently strives for accuracy in his stories. I find each book so engrossing it is hard to put them down. So many surprising twists and turns. He doesn't pull any punches so, be prepared for surprises. Void Moon is one of my favorites. Jorja
