Stop searching google and just buy the book
You searched google for the program. You searched reddit for the program. You did everything you could with all the online calculators to create your 531 program and yet you still have questions. Buy the book. It has all the explanations you need. Maybe you'll like the program or maybe not - stop trying to cut corners and just buy the book. It's not even that expensive. Be honest, you've spent more for far more idiotic things than this. Just buy the book.Is it my favorite methodology? No. Am I sorry that I bought the book? Also no.Stop futzing about and just buy the book. You'll either be glad you did or you'll have a resource to help you figure out that this isn't what you want out of your training - you win either way because knowing more is never a bad thing. It informs your decisions as you progress in your training. Even information you don't like can help. Information you DO like helps even more.Just buy the book. Seriously. It's not that deep - it's not that expensive. Stop pretending you can fill in the gaps by asking redditors or ChatGPT. Just buy the book, read the book, and move on.

5/3/1 Review
I have lifted recreationally for years, but, it had been years since I had done more than a standard 225 pounds on everything. Not because I couldn't lift more, but, because I fell into the 3 sets, 225x8, struggling-to-be-consistent with my efforts routine. Basically the 12 sets per bodypart, 5 days a week, etc that everybody else walking around the gym is doing. Just over a year ago (not coincidentally 1 month before I turned 30), I started searching for something to do. Just anything. I am married, with kids and a job, but, I also wanted to do something to keep the juices flowing. So, I did Starting Strength for 14 weeks, and got my Squat and Deadlift up to 350x5, and my Bench Press to 250x5. I immediately started 5/3/1. I finished that 14 weeks of Starting Strength 11 months (11 5/3/1 cycles) ago. Since starting 5/3/1 my Deadlift has come up to 460x3. My squat is 425x3. And my Bench Press is 300x3 (The reason I chose to give you my best sets for 3 is that my 11th cycle of 5/3/1, I did the 2x2 schedule from Wendler's 5/3/1 for Powerlifters book, so my best sets for 5 are a little outdated, ie; 2 months old).Anyway, I am VERY pleased with that level of progress. And I think so would most everyone else. The reason it appeals to me so much is that I can change up all of the accessories and everything every month so it appeals to my brains yearning to have massive ADD, but, I haven't really changed much of anything, because I'm still going to go in there and hit my %'s for reps. I've experimented with everything from bands and speed sets some months (which I understand Wendler doesn't approve of), no accessories at all some months, etc... But the straight sets (week 1 x5+@ 85%, x3+ @ 90, and x1+ @95%).I also experimented with the AMRAP (as many reps as possible) sets (more so in the beginning), and I have pretty much settled on (FOR ME) shooting for a triple on my 95% week 3, and I don't do it any more during week 1 and 2. Say what you want, but, again, my results have been pretty great for just under a year.Secondarily, the book is a good read. It's funny and has some great info in there obviously. To sum it up, I highly recommend the book.

Awesome book for long-term workout programming
Wendler knows his stuff and this book is no exception. I've been using 531 variations for years and love the flexibility of the program and consistent progress I've seen while using it. This book brings leader/anchors plus a ton of extra variety (supplemental heaven is my current favorite) to keep things interesting. This definitely builds on the earlier books, but between this volume and the free articles Wendler has released you don't necessarily need the other books in the series... but I'd still recommend them! If you want a maintainable program to get strong while also staying in shape, it's hard to do better than this.I've used many different programs but always come back to this one. Everyone's goals and recovery is different, but I've had great success using his 4x per week templates to really push a strength cycle or 3x per week when I'm more focused on conditioning. (this is my favorite in the summer) I even stuck with 531 to maintain strength concurrently with a marathon training plan to prep for a Spartan Ultra. (I crushed that goal, by the way) Having all of these options make it really easy to design and program a workout to fit your current goals. I'm certainly not a professional athlete, but training with Wendler's principles helps me feel ready for whatever life throws at me. Can't recommend this enough!

A lifetime’s worth of training routines
If you’ve already read any on the other books in the 5/3/1 series by Jim , then you will already have an understanding of the fundamentals of the system. This book carries on from beyond 5/3/1 but expands on the same philosophy and offers a huge number of templates that you can apply for the rest of your training life .Excellent work Mr .Wendler !

Everything you need and more
As someone who has ran 5/3/1 off and on for a number of years, I'm happy to finally get this book. It legitimately has enough programs and variety to last you a lifetime. As people have noted it makes it easier to read if you have a working knowledge of 5/3/1 with some of the terms used (BBB, FSL, 5's PRO, etc), but if you've got a handle on that I definitely recommend this book.
