I'm less than 10 years from retirement, these micrometers are a great deal for the money, very good quality and proving to be very accurate!

These micrometers work correctly, and repeateably. Wonderful ease of use. Once I used these a bit I started to feel really confident in my measurements. The individual sizes with stop locks and calibration barrels make this set a win. I use them in hobby engine building to check piston diameters, valve shim thickness, dial bore gauge setup, and more. I have a basic micrometer stand to hold them while measuring things, it makes the process easy. The locks are a major component, their precision is ideal for repeated checks. Before this I was using a large Starrett caliper with step down adapters and no lock. The adapters were cumbersome, which I can deal with, but the measuring barrel could be easily disturbed, which made repeated checks impossible. So I bought these Shars micrometers as a replacement. I am aware they are not at the same quality level as Starrett, but for my use they are terrific. I have a couple of other Shars tools so I felt good buying these. I'm quite satisfied with them. Their stuff is superior to the offshore stuff without being so spendy that I feel guilty buying it.

We checked these with our certified standards and were pleased with the accuracy. I did not check them all. 0-1, 1-2, 2-3 and 4-5 were all within a .0001 of accuracy. 4-5 did have a very slight tight spot on the travel (very minimal and question weather it might even show a variation). I bought this set to measure engine parts with my young boys and did not want them dropping and ruining a good/more expensive set. These are well within tolerance and the price is right for the young hands that will be handling them. As many have said the case it poor (I think it was built by in the first graders wood shop), but that is not my real concern.
