and it worked great. This wont work on controllers that dont support ...
This cable saved my arse. Its a SAS drive to SATA board plug. I had a server go belly up and wanted data off a RAID1 drive, and only had a PERC i/ machine (Precision line) with SATA ports only. Looking it up showed that the chipset was SAS/SATA so I gave this a shot, and it worked great. This wont work on controllers that dont support SAS - I wouldnt try. Its for crappily engineered motherboards that dont have SAS ports with SAS cables plugged into SATA drives, like the standard was intended to be used. Being what it is, companies go cheap and only put SATA ports though, so these cables are a thing.-Connected my SAS drive to a SAS-enabled SATA port on a motherboard.

With a PC RAID Controller Card, Cable Allows Connection of a SAS Drive to a PC
For me, this worked as advertised. I was tasked to wipe the data from a bunch of SAS drives which came from servers we had decommissioned at our office. I was allowed to do this from home, our network guy gave me a PCI Express SAS RAID controller to do the job in my spare time. I had a spare PC available, into which I installed the card. The card however had a SATA port on it, not SAS, so there was no way to directly connect a SAS drives to the card. I already had a USB to SATA/IDE cable and power supply, and I got the StarTech adapter cable - I connected the 4-pin IDE connector from the power supply into the StarTech 4-pin power connector, plugged the SATA data cable coming off the StarTech adapter into the SAS RAID controller card, and the StarTech cable's SAS connector to a SAS drive. The drive powered up and the RAID card 'saw' the drive. Using the software that came with the RAID controller card, I initialized the drive as JBOD ("just a bunch of drives") instead of RAID, which allowed Windows to recognize the drive - I was then able to the run a standard PC utility to then wipe the data from the drive. With 20+ SAS drives I had to wipe, doing the wiping job at home was so much easier and more convenient than having to sit in a bare server room of an office we'd mostly moved out of, all by myself, wiping the drives in the servers we later had to junk.

Necesrio
Si quieres poner una grabadora Bluray slim en un ordenador "normal", necesitas este cable si o si, ya que el sata normal no te servira

Good for SATA. Not for SAS.
It works great for SATA.However, I purchased it for testing SAS drives. Never got it to recognize a single SAS drive, even known good ones. Tried multiple computers and configurations.

Used to connect a SAS drive to a controller with SATA connectors
From reading other reviews on this page there seems to be confusion on when/why you'd use this cable. The purpose is to connect a SAS (Serial Attached SCSI) drive to a (RAID or onboard) controller that uses a SATA connector. SAS drives look ALMOST like SATA drives except that the connector is slightly different and has been designed so that you cannot physically plug a SATA data cable into a SAS drive. SAS drive connectors generally combine both power & data into ONE connector that plugs into the drive (although there are SATA cables that do the same thing). What may trip up some folks is that this SAS connector will allow you to connect a SATA controller to a SAS drive but nothing will happen unless the controller specifically works with SAS drives. This probably accounts for some of the negative reviews. To summarize, this will not "magically" make a SAS drive work with a SATA controller - the controller must support SAS drives for anything productive to occur.I have bought & used this cables with SAS drives and a compatible controller and everything works fine. The only negative thing I can say about this cable is that you have to be careful plugging in the power supply molex connector as it is possible to push out pins if you do not wiggle both connectors to line up pins properly. Do not attempt to force the white molex connectors together otherwise you may damage a pin or dislodge it from the housing.I hope this clears up the confusion and you have found this helpful!

So far, so good. Does what it says.
This is not going to convert SATA to SAS. As long as you understand that, your expectations should be met. This simply converts SAS connectors so that you can connect to SAS hard drives designed for servers. My application is simply to take old server drives and scrub then encrypt them for disposal. The comment in one review on making sure to align the keys of the Molex connectors was spot on. Be careful with that connection. Best of luck.

might not work on your MB
Everything fit together nicely, but my MB didn't recognize any HD. I'm running a ASUS P6X58D PREMIUM. I'm going to save the harness in case I might need it in the future. It might work with another MB.
