Lovely Chi Iron: Even perfect for heavy linen or cotton!
I bought this Chi Iron for my sewing room. I wanted a Rowenta level iron, but have been concerned with the negative reviews on their irons recently. My setup uses a silicone iron rest and a large wool pressing mat on the end of my large work table. When it first arrived I set it up and was impressed with hot fast it heated. This iron is more wattage than I’ve owned previously. I get a small amount of dimming on lights that are plugged into my outlets, but I expected that. I sew with mostly woven fabrics of varying weights, linen and cotton. I filled the water tank. Steamed up a wrinkled linen. Not “insanely crisp” after one pass but not wrinkled. But it was leaking from the handle right below the water tank lid. I emptied the while thing out, refilled carefully. Aaaand leaking again. I messaged Amazon and they had a replacement at my house the next day. I was able to choose my local Whole Foods for the returned package and dropping it there was easy peasy. The counter was at the front of the store, they scanned the barcode in my Amazon App and showed me the confirmation on their end. Three seconds. And I needed bread so that was perfect. The second iron worked just as great with no leaking at all. I’ve been using it a month now and I am still in love with it. Best features: Heats fast fast fast, from cold to whatever temp you pick. Water tank holds a lot of water and is easy to see where the water level is located. Steam is fantastic. Buttons are easy to push and the cap for the water flips up easily. (My last iron had a water cap that was more like a secret door because it was so hard to open without a nail file or something tiny) Oh and it’s easy to see what setting and if the iron is on from far away because of the light at the base of the handle and the large letters on the settings that light up. Oh, AND the cord is so long I can plug it in 5 feet away and still have room to navigate. Cons: Small hole for water. See photos, I use my tiny watering can and it’s perfect!! The nose of the iron isn’t quite as thin as I wanted, but it is still okay. See photos for visuals. 💕

Awesome orin
This iron is fantastic. It’s super hot and the ability to change. The level of steam is wonderful. It’s lightweight and there’s not a lot of problem with things sticking to the face plate.

A good alternative to the famous German brand
We needed a new iron, so I began looking at a well known German brand that used to be the gold standard. Unfortunately, the consensus seems to be that the quality of that company's products has gone down hill since manufacturing moved to Asia. After far too much research into residential and commercial irons, I decided to order this one and one of the top of the line models from the German company. Upon receiving and inspecting them both it was apparent that the German brand's iron would be going back to Amazon and I'd be keeping this CHI. Initial impressions of this iron after the first few uses are excellent: the cord is plenty long (2 ft longer than the retractable models), controls are comfortable and intuitive, and the water tank is big enough and reasonably easy to fill. It hasn't leaked except for a small drop after I got carried away with the steam burst function. At this point my only concerns going forward are about the longevity of the electronic controls and the coated soleplate. My previous irons have all had stainless soleplates, which I prefer, but CHI doesn't make those. Time will tell how long this iron is going to last, but the initial quality is quite impressive and inspires confidence.

Exactly what I wanted!
I am really happy with this iron. It is well designed and performs very well. Perfect weight, perfect steam distribution, no drips, precision temp setting. I use it for table linens, button front shirts, other clothes. I think it would be good for sewing projects as it stays “on” for 30 minutes between uses. My previous iron was made by a famous European brand known for their irons and this Chi iron by far exceeds the performance my old one. Glad I spent a little more to get this one - laundry day is easier!

Overheating and coating rubbing off the nose
ETA: The company Chi responded to my email quickly and is sending me a new iron as this is under warranty. I hope to not have issues with the replacement. Will amend when I've tested. When the iron worked, it was really nice. But with light use and glitching quickly, not a good sign. Customer service response was very good though. So I'm hopeful! I've had this for 4 months to use for quilting pressing. It often seems to overheat where all the lights will flash and beeping happens until I unplug it. The coating is already coming off the tip. I do not use the steam function ... I have a spray bottle. And it is only used on cotton quilting fabric. When I called Chi customer service, I was told to contact Hamilton Beach as they are the ones who make the iron? So far, I'm not impressed with this situation. UPDATE: Not used it since May but recently got it back out to use again. Used it a couple of days for simple seam pressing. Just now, turned it on. It heated to temperature for cotton. Then it started beeping (while using). Sat it upright. Continued to beep and all lights flashed and then it completely shut off. Unplugged it. It smelled like it was burning. I don't use the steam function. Let it sit for a while and went back to check on it. Plugged it in and it will not turn on AT ALL. It's dead. Had this product for less than a year and have barely used it and now it's dead. Trying to contact someone to help has not proven effective yet. I want to love this iron. It's great while it is working.

This product should be removed from the Amazon UK website. The lead comes with a USA plug fitted to it. Because of this I contacted Chi support to find out what UK fuse rating would be needed for a USA to UK plug adapter. Chi support said the iron is not safe to use with the UK mains supply!!!
