Nice cozy mystery
Oscar Reilly, Interim Library Director at the Athena College Library, has managed to alienate just about everyone working there including Charlie Harris. Charlie is not happy when he is told he can no longer bring his Maine Coon Cat Diesel in to work and ponders his next steps. Oscar has made more enemies than friends so when he is murdered there are plenty of suspects, including Oscar’s secretary Melba Gilley. Charlie is sure his friend Melba is not the killer and sets out to clear her name. However, the more he investigates, the more he puts himself and those around him in very real danger.“No Cats Allowed” is the nicely done seventh book and Miranda James’ Cat in the Stacks cozy mystery series (Miranda James is the pseudonym for author Dean James). I love Charlie, Diesel, and the rest of their friends and this book had me hooked from the very beginning. Oscar Reilly truly was a nasty person which means there are plenty of suspects for readers to try and guess who the killer is. James takes his time letting the storyline unfold and the murder happen, which gives readers a great chance to get to know not only the murder victim but the suspects. This is a nice approach the pulls readers into the story so that they feel like they are there solving the mystery alongside Charlie and Diesel. There is just the right amount of tension in this book to keep readers on the edge of their seats at times – while reading the book there were a few times that I jumped when certain unexpected events happened. The book is cleverly plotted with plenty of twists and turns and, even with all the clues in the book, I couldn't figure out who the killer was. The motive for the murder was very realistic and well-written.“No Cats Allowed” is another nice cozy mystery by Miranda James.

Diesel is not allowed in the library.
small town college librarian becomes detective. Help police force solve crimes by being naturally easy to talk to. In this story, his library job is in jeopardy as well as many colleagues. The college library has hired a new department head. This new hire is hated for his treatment of the job and the people in multiple departments. Guess what, he is murdered. This makes almost everyone a suspect. Is Charlie a murderer, suspect or just a guy in the wrong place at the wrong time. Charlie along with his Maine coon cat Diesel, will help the real killer be brought to justice. Each story has its basic set of characters that are well written and clearly defined. All stories have new characters involved with the basic characters and supply the suspects for the new mystery. I order each new book in this series as soon as it is available. Their are no easy solutions, many twist and turns. Very good read and worth the money.

Knowing how to read a spreadsheet is not part of everyone's training!
This is more complicated than some of the previous books because first, you need to be semi-computer literate and secondly, you need to understand how libraries justify expenditures for the purchases they make available to their clients. Near the end I thought the explanations were too complicated for the layman. I could understand how the story built and how the plot held together. I could understand, vaguely, how it was solved but only in the most rudimentary way, mostly having read so many mysteries; but I could never explain to it to someone else. The other thing that bothered me about the main character is that he is only 52 or 53 years old. I may have missed something in an earlier book but he sounds like he has health issues generally attributed to much older people. Still, I like His interactions with family, cat, and friends so I will keep reading the series.

Terrific
Another great story from Miranda James. There is a new interim director of the library and he's trouble with a capital t. Charlie and Melba were thinking of ways to get out of coming to work which they both loved. Then a murder occurs and Charlie can't wait to help out. This story has many twists and turns to keep you on your toes. Throw in a few more murders and some near misses keeps the story flowing nicely. Once you get started you won't want to put the book down.

Cute Mystery
Somebody killed the acting director of the library after he took the position. Charlie and his cat, Diesel, work there. The new director is fighting with everyone who works there and then he is killed and Charlie is put in charge. Trying to find the killer, he uncovers fraud, vandalism, and blackmail. Charlie and his friends try to figure out what is going on and how far the corruption goes. 4 stars

Could have sworn Hallmark wrote this book
I was sort of liking this at the beginning, mainly because of the cat. But it’s written in such a ponderous fashion I just couldn’t enjoy it. The main character is so unrealistic (and boring), The dialogue is stilted. And after all the build up, the murderer is revealed in a sentence! Very disappointing. I won’t be reading others in the series. Sorry Diesel (the Maine Coon cat).

A fun series
I love this series. I don't have to get past a page or two before I get interested in the story. Charlie Harris, his cat, Diesel and his family, friends and co-workers provide a wonderful group to spend some time with. The books are not overly gory and for the most part they do not have intense violence. As soon as I finish one, I move on to the next.

Character Lacking
As a former librarian a nd car lover the title had immediate appeal. But it wasn't until I was a good 20 pages into the story when another character called the protagonist Mr. that I realized Charlie was male. Unfortunately that dissonance between the feminine way he acted and thought and make gender spoiled what was otherwise a good story.

I've thoroughly enjoyed!!!
This is a series that I happened on and have found it thoroughly fun. As a fan of kitties it is great; plus, I like the family affair of family and friends. Do read and enjoy

Gripping stories well told. Gentle and wise.
Love these characters and the mystery involved. More particularly I love that the the writer obviously has a deep love of books and knowledge of how libraries function. A pure joy. Making my way through the whole series. Would recommend.
