R&R Games 1st & Goal, Football Board Game for Adults and Kids, Ideal for Family Night

Our family loves football, its a great game for someone who knows football would recommned for older kids as you have to do alot of reading/thinking. It's fun and worth the money. If you don't know football well I'd suggest to purchase a different game.

My wife & I bought all the expansions & started our own league. Played it so much we wore out the board & cards & had to order a new game.

If you love board games & the NFL then this is perfect for you. You truly have to be an NFL fan to appreciate this game. It is by far the best football game on the market. However, the game does depend EXCLUSIVELY on dice rolling for its game play. So, if you don't like the randomness that can occur through good or bad dice rolls you might not enjoy this. When my friends who love board games, but not the NFL, play they tend to get bored.The reasons I love this game is because:1. The board and pieces are magnetic. Everything sticks to the board, which is important when you've got a lot of dice rolling around.2. The board layout is clear, easy to read and easy to keep track of downs; distance; score.3. The game pieces are really cute! Also, the cards and board are high quality.4. The rules are intuitive, if you already understand how American Football is played, and not hard to learn if you don't. My 11 year old is a casual NFL and board game player & she understood how to play by "halftime" in the game.The only drawback I have is that you have to put the stickers on the custom dice. I'm such an OCD person that I was worried that I might not do it perfectly or put them on in the wrong way. Luckily, I found a "sticker guide" on the manufacture website that should me how to do it correctly.

First, let me say that i'm not the biggest football fan in the world - I bought this game for my son, who plays in a youth league, and is all about all things football right now. I wasn't sure what to expect of this game; at first glance, the gameplay appears complicated, but i was relieved to find that it's rather simple, once you understand the basics. We had loads of fun playing this game, and I can't wait to play again! There is a lot left to luck, in particular if you're not using "football logic" to play, and i did find that sometimes making counter-intuative choices can be an advantage, since your opponent is guessing what your play will be, based on the current yardage situation. I read a few reviews that mentioned that stickers had to be placed on each die face, but that was not the case with the game i recieved - all dice were very well made, and had the symbols and numbers molded into the die faces. The game board is great too! The magnetic football and down marker are great! All in all, this game exceeded my expectations, and I'd recommend it to football fans, and non-football fans alike.

...This is a card driven, play calling,Rock-Paper-Scissors based game. (Not a pure Statistically based game).This is good if you want an equal game, rather than two unequal NFL Teams. Both sides face the "thrill of victory, and the agony of the dice" EQUALLY!!!...There are 12 Offensive, and 12 Defensive plays. A total of about 120 cards.You can only call a play if you have the appropriate card. You can only hold 8 cards at once....But you could easily just give each player all 24 plays, and turn it into a pure play calling game, and never put the cards on the discard pile after you play them, if that's what you want!!!!...There's 10 CUSTOM dice. Which ones are used is based on the situation, and which plays are called. You add up the dice to get your result.This is annoying, but you get used to it. It could really be annoying if you lose one of the CUSTOM dice!!!I really prefer games that use real dice (or at least commonly available Dragons and Dungeons Dice!!!) so that they're easier to replace....Playing the game gives results that look like a real football game....Some of the rules are unclear on what to do in certain situations. But I think that after a couple games, reasonable people can agree on how these situations are resolved....The "chain" part of the plastic 1st-Down marker was bent, I couldn't straighten it, and it wouldn't function as intended, but I clipped it off and just used the poles.The markers are magnetic. So they stay in place if the board is bumped.The magnets are the same color as the scoreboard used to keep track of time-outs, and the score, so it's difficult to see them. (I suggest you paint one side of the magnets white, to make them more visible!!...One photo shows the chains after I clipped the conecting piece. I used nail clippers.The other photo shows the magnets to use on the scoreboard....

Great game, uses fictional teams, but very realistic strategy, I wish they would make a version of this game using real NFL teams, but I guess the use of real NFL teams would make this game more expensive. I highly recommend this game if you don't mind using fictional teams vs real teams.

This game was in great condition. Great for football game fans and great for board game fans. Perfect mix of both would highly recommend. You have a play field where you put the magnetic ball and the 1st down magnetic marker just like in the real game. The defense and offence draw a hand of play cards to pick from. Each play has dice pool assigned and each team has different strengths and weakness shown through the numbers on the dice pools. Then you roll your dice and minus the defense dice and that determines your yardage. Sounds simple but you also roll a play dice that can result in turnovers and penalties and whatnot. You can decide to punt or go for field goals and other special plays that are preset on a special card. The game really represents everything you could do in the real game. Lot of fun.

What a great game! Tons of fun, exactly what I was hoping out of the game. There's alot of "randomness" but that's part of the fun. Getting shut down on 1st goal etc. I would definitely recommend buying at least one expansion to spice it up a bit. But the base game is still very fun! Look up "boardgamegeeks.com" forums for some interesting ideas to better the game, or even play solo! Again, awesome game, definitely a big thumbs up from me.

Bought this for my Brother in law for xmas and he absolutely loves it. The guy lives and breathes football and this game is the game for him. The card mechanic really helps you feel like you're calling the plays and there's consequence. Of course, there's the damned dice you have to roll which I always seem to have bad things happen (turn overs, penalties, big passes getting broken up). Really well done. Best football boardgame by far.

Excellent football game! Puts you right in the coach's seat!

I love the game. Very awesome. Unfortunately, when I received it the yard marker (the little "chains" that mark the 10 yards on the board) was broken in two places. I glued it together with some superglue, but I don't know how it would have broken as the box was unopened and everything else inside was undisturbed. Otherwise, the quality of the product is great. Wasn't worth shipping back for one little broken piece, but I was a little disappointed.UPDATE: I emailed RnR games and told them about my situation. They sent me a replacement piece, free of charge. Very classy move and I'm extremely impressed. Will definitely purchase the expansion packs and would recommend this product not just for the quality of the game itself (which is excellent), but for the quality of the company (which is also excellent). Thank you!
