I just bought this gate because I needed something semi-permanent in my living room to keep my new puppy from running all over the house. My first gate looked very cheap and kept falling down because it didn't have a door and I just propped it against the wall. I needed a gate with a door.I checked at least 3 different sites besides Amazon for a "rich" looking gate WITH a door. I landed on this one.PROS:1.) Looks nice and elegant2.) The door swings open both ways (very nice)3.) Brown / tan (much nicer than the plastic grey colors like Grayco)4.) Solid design (wood and steel, nice)5.) The gate locks at the top and the bottom at the same time, making it impossible for my puppy to push his way through at the bottom.6.) Lock is nicely positioned (but see #5 in the CONS below).CONS:1.) ONLY the door is wood, ALL of the gate material is metal. Would be nicer is the entire gate was the same wood and the hardware was metal.2.) The door does not swing 180 degrees open. The door only opens to about 110 degrees so because it's not flush with the gate, my dog or kids sometimes run into it.3.) The color of the gate does not match the door. It's close and it compliments it, but it's not a match.4.) The rubber feet that touch the wall (I'm not talking about the adjuster knobs, because they are brown) to hold it in place against the wall are grey. At this price, they should be brown to match the gate. I don't know how the company missed this one.5.) The handle to open the gate only works in "baby-proof" mode. I which you could deactivate the thumb button and make it so that you only have to lift up on the handle to open. Not the thumb & lift up. Just a convenience thing. It's sometimes a little tricky when both your handles are full with grocery bags.6.) The screws are shiny silver. They should have painted them brown as well. (Richell, it your reading this, you could have anodized them dark brown like some many other screws, that way they're less noticeable.)7.) THIS IS THE BIGGY **IMPORTANT** This gate only works in certain segments. Unless you're really handy with tools and a welding torch you must pay attention to this. This gate will ONLY fit on the following openings, NO EXCEPTIONS: 35" to 37" with no side gates (just door) 47" to 49" with one side gate attached 59" to 61" with both side gates attachedWhen I bought this gate, I didn't understand this and I was lucky that my opening is 47". If it was only 45" I would have had to return this gate. There is no way around this.Overall this is a quality gate, but just know what you're getting.I would buy this gate again if I had to make this choice all over.I gave this gate 4 stars instead of 5 because only the door was wood. If the gates and door were wood, I would have given it 5 stars.

I purchased this gate after my wife and I got tired of almost breaking our necks stepping over a fixed gate. This gate does a very good job of confining our 5lb Yorkie and 20lb Shiba to the kitchen. The gate is sturdy and tall enough to contain much larger pets, and with a rail spacing of just 1 1/2 inches, I can't imagine a dog or cat small enough to slip through.Once installed, the gate works very well. The latching mechanism is rather unsightly and made of gray plastic. I would have preferred color matching to the rest of the gate (the same goes for the adjusters). I had intended to replace it with some other type of latch but found that it functions extremely well, latching securely at the top and the bottom while being easy to use. The gate hinges are incredibly quiet and smooth, adding to the solid feel of the unit.I knew going in that install would be challenging in our situation. The walls on each side of the opening are not parallel to each other and the opening is 56". In reading A. Graff's excellent review for this product (in the Autumn Matte color), I knew that this was between any of the acceptable size ranges (35"-37", 47"-49", 59"-61"). With a lifetime of experience jury rigging things to work, I ordered anyway, knowing I would come up with some mounting method (even if not wife approved). It turns out it was a simple matter of using a hacksaw to cut off 4" from one of the side extensions. I wasn't concerned about the door itself being centered in the opening but I could have cut off 2" on each side extension with the same result.Even though the side adjusters are rather unsightly, they are very effective. The manufacturer came up with an ingenious method of making sure the upper adjusters provide enough tension. Since there cannot be a horizontal support spanning the top without blocking passage, the door frame is made of heavy square steel tubing which actually bows out at the top. At first glance, it looks defective. When the upper adjusters are tightened, though, the tension pushes the frame into square. The door frame acts as a giant spring. I'm not sure if metal fatigue over time will diminish the effectiveness of this solution but, for now, it provides a very secure fit.I would give the product a 5 rating if it weren't for the mismatch color of the plastic handle and adjusters along with the fact that the side extensions may need to be cut to size in some situations (which is undocumented).

This gate is AMAZING! I purchased this product to contain my yorkies in their 'doggie room' because my male is a climber. Weighing in at just under 4lbs, this little fellow will climb his way to the moon if given the opportunity. I had to find a gate that did not have horizontal bars that would give him the leverage to climb out. This one fit the bill and he's been successfully contained. The assembly instructions are a bit conufusing, at first, but once I took a good glance, I was able to put this together in minutes. There is an option to use just the pass thru gate as the extentions can be removed and the tension feet or knobs can be assembled to just the gate. I am able to pressure fit this inside a 60" door opening and could easily go up to 62" if needed. The easy open pass-thru gate is operated by my 3yr old grandson with no issues. It's been well received by everyone in the house. I highly recommend this to anyone with small 'critters' or children that need to be kept away from specific areas for safety reasons. I didn't receive free product in exchange for this review nor was I paid to write this review.

I bought this gate for my dog (Alaskan Klee Kai) who jumps high and climbs as well. It looks pretty and very secured. Easy to use.The assembling needs 2 people. Not too difficult.However, I have to return this item as my dog could jump over it easily, even after I raised it up by 1FT (by inserting sth under neath).

We were very pleased with a puppy gate. It arrived on time and was so easy to install. We were pleasantly surprised at the high quality of the gate and how strong it is. It was an added bonus to find out that the gate swings in or out. Our Golden Retriever will have difficulty in escaping the deck from now on!

It was easy to assemble, but I was not aware that I would have to cut the metal side bars in order to make it fit my opening. There were only three sizes that were factory and I needed a custom size. Metal blade on a reciprocating saw did the trick.

Fabulous gate, great functionality and looks. However, I didn't give it five stars because it is about 3 inches short for the space we have it in and no way to expand it. We solved that problem with a 2 x 4 on one side, but sort of ruins the look.
