Mains needed
I didn't realise this light needed a mains connection as well as the ability to do wiring. It doesn't even have a plug attached, rather a very short set of wires and the light. Although it seems well made I think it's overpriced and the cable needs much more length.

AC powered. Comes with a very short cable which is not practical
Nicely constructed light with metal housing and metal spike, no plug or any connection fitting except the three wires at the end of a 1 metre cable that the instructions tell you to feed through an exterior wall and connect to the mains. With a metre cable? Instructions appear to suggest I connect it straight to my actual mains box. This cannot be right but the ambiguity is concerning and the short short cable is not really practical.Image on the box and on Amazon product page does not show clearly that this is powered from the mains. If you scroll through quite a lot of text you eventually see the letters AC.

A good product but you need an electrician.
I was rather disappointed by the Luceco LED Outdoor Decorative Garden Spike. Principally because it needs someone qualified to install it. I think I was expecting a solar light.

Not cheap to install, but still preferable to low voltage or solar powered lights
In many respects, these mains powered lights are much more practical than their low voltage or solar powered equivalents, not only because they are more robust but also because the quality, consistency and brightness of the lights is much better. These aren't bright by any stretch of the imagination however, they aren't supposed to be - as ambient lighting, they give a lovely gentle glow, which illuminates the desired areas of your garden perfectly. However, whilst I much prefer these to low voltage or solar powered lights, there is a downside and that is cost. As they are mains powered, the installation needs to be done properly, and that means armoured cable, which is buried to the correct depth, to ensure you don't get a nasty surprise when you accidentally slice through the cable. This wouldn't be a concern for low voltage or solar powered lights and so you have to weigh up the installation cost against the reliability and brightness of these lights. They are designed to an IP66 rating which means they are fully water and dust proof and so you can be confident that they will withstand virtually any type of outdoor environment, other than full immersion in water. I would have preferred if the colour temperature had been a but warmer (3000K rather than 4000K) but that's not a deal breaker in my book.In summary, it's a decent, well made light spike that provides a nice level of ambient lighting, but you need to be aware that they will be relatively costly to install (and please don't think about taking short cuts on this as it could endanger your, or someone else's, life)

Specialist lighting
LED light requiring an electrician and a bit of knowledge to fit. The light is bright but the lead is only 1.5 meters long hence the knowledge and electrician.

Misleading information
Really disappointed. I actually thought this was a solar powered light. There’s nothing on the Amazon page to show it has a power cable and even on the box it doesn’t feature. The cable is so short I’d need to fix the spike in a flower pot next to a wall to get the cable through the brick work. I’ve given it two stars because it’s well made and robust but it loses the other three stars for the unclear power source and the length of the cable. By the way, there’s no plug either – just bare cable.

Expected Something Completely Different
This might do the job of lighting up paths and flower beds, as well as appearing well built, sturdy and durable but unfortunately, this decorative garden spike is wired, which was not made clear in the description and we have no way of setting this up, not having access to electrical points. In addition to that, there is no plug – which is really odd – and it is really short as well. We have purchased quite a few solar powered lights for the garden over the year and they work really well, so this not being solar powered will miss the mark for way too many people. Unfortunate really, because it really is nice with a lot of potential.

OK but limited and rather expensive
This is a single mains powered light supplied in a branded box along with some rather basic instructions. It is terminated on a short lead with a bare end that will need to be terminated onto an external bulkhead or something similar. It is assembled on a metal spike that provides its location into soft ground and it can be rotated through 150 degrees. The light is only rated at 3 watts but provides a bright if tightly focused light. The fact it is mains powered means it should really be installed by a trained electrician and will need to be located away from pets or children. For this reason, I tend to prefer low voltage lights which offer an equivalent beam but are safer. It is IP66 rated, well-sealed and offered with a 2-year warranty. This is well made and may be useful for a specific location or to add to an existing display but there are better options in the market for most situations in my opinion.
