It is a good book to teach empathy and also for predictions
I read this book to my first graders. I got teary eyed, and so did they. It is a good book to teach empathy and also for predictions, in addition to penguins, of course.

A happy ending in a realistic book
This is a great book to teach about empathy and care for the environment. The ending turns out happy but the little penguin faces real life challenges as a chick. I liked the realism in this book. Lots of learning/facts are weaved into this tale about a chick and her penguin parents. This book could be read to 3 year olds (who will enjoy the story/pictures) to 8 year olds (who will enjoy the the former as well as learn interesting facts about penguins). The reading level (read on their own) is for older children.

Polar story
The children loved it. We read it together and then they read it with partners during our quiet reading time.

Gorgeous story
A fabulous story, with brilliant illustrations. The children really enjoyed the book and complimented our topic really well. We even booked Paul Geraghty for an author visit (well worth it, inspiring!)
