The handling noise is no joke
It sounds fine when recording an isolated electric guitar cabinet, but you can't be walking anywhere close to the cabinet or else the mic will pick up your footsteps.I cannot imagine using this mic on a live stage let alone in a handheld vocal microphone application ; the handling noise is really crazy awful. If you put the mic in a stand and grab the stand, the handling noise alone is LOUD.

Kinda goes without saying this is good!
This is a time tested and true "good" Microphone. You really can not go wrong with this if you are a good singer. If you are a mediocre singer, get a Shure SM-58 and a computer to fix things up. This works great too, to manipulate sound, but I find it best suited for Live and just plugged straight into the mixer or PA, and just go with it. This is designed to pick up the natural sound of a real vocalist. If your terrible like me, then the Shure is better in my opinion, to pick up what I want from my voice, and process it through Mainstage or something else to make people think I can really sing. I let my Squeezie use this one since she is an actual talented singer. Works awesome.Real singers the world over use this without reservation on any stage. Its great! That is if you really have a voice for it.Get one anyway to keep around for that moment your voice kicks in and wants to get out and flaunt its stuff! You will be glad you did.

Outstanding microphone, excellent value
As you probably know if you're reading the reviews, the Heil PR-20 is a handheld, dynamic microphone well suited to live vocals. It has a very natural, open sound - flattering to a singer or speaker with a good voice without sounded hyped in any way. At this price it is a sensational value. It comes with a foam windscreen, simple mic clip and the nicest damn mic pouch you're likely to find - real leather with a fleece lining and the Heil Sound logo embossed on one side (seriously, this is one swanky pouch). Construction of the mic is very solid and belies the fact that it is so inexpensive. There is some handling noise, but it is, in my opinion, more than offset by the sonic qualities of the mic, which are extremely pleasing. You won't be disappointed by this mic at this price point, that's for sure. In saying that I'm not implying that "it's a good mic for the money" - this would be a very, very good mic even at several times the price.

Great all-purpose workhorse mic
A great sounding mic.. we use this for the main lead vocals at the rehearsal space, and it performs head & shoulders above the battered old Shure 58's... a very clear, present hi-mid sound that cuts through loud & clear. This is almost a poor-man's SM-7, I think you could put it on just about anything and get an acceptable sound; it would likely even work as a mono drum overhead. One note: the windscreen on mine began to discolor from oxidation (rust) from all the spit that was being splattered all over it. I contacted Heil and they immediately sent out a replacement windscreen free of charge. Excellent customer support and they really stand behind their products.

Great mic, slightly flawed
Great sounding mic, but extremely vulnerable to handling noise. Might be OK with a shock mount, but that's not too practical given intended application of live performance. The rigid mic clip stand mount included with the PR20 provides a near perfect mechanical coupling so that any handling of the mic stand is transmitted to the mic. All-in-all, I'd say this mic is dangerous in live applications for any performer who is not totally aware of mic handling technique.

This mic seems like it has more low-end than comparable mics in the same price range (which I really like). It's really durable and looks great on stage - and did I mention how great it sounds?! I do about 150 gigs a year and this is my favorite mic in the quiver at the moment. I can't wait to try it out in the studio on different applications. I'll definitely buy another!

Love the product.
We chose these for the lack of low end precedence. The only downside is the handling noise, but you learn to live with it in a live application.

Clear sweet smooth sound
Good clear sweet sound unfortunately ...Way too much handling noise. Placing it on a mic stand and not touching it would solve it but not practical if you prefer to hold your mic.

Much better than the PR22 even with the poor handling noises
This is a very good microphone that I use for recording podcasts. Compared to a number of other handheld mics that I tested, this is better for podcast use than most of them. It's very good at exposing the higher notes and gives your voice a smoother texture. It was replaced by the PR22 by Heil because of the poor handling sound. And the handling sounds are terrible if you need to move the mic around when using it. On a stationary mic stand it great.

Excellent Mic
Excellent piece of gear for micing amps, just recently recorded some demos with my band and the clarity of this mic is rather impressive, i personally even prefer it to the sm57, awesome product very well built too

Had to buy another one to avoid a cat fight between the two lead vocalists!
Clear top end, helps the vocals cut through the mix. I would replace all my Mics with heils if I could afford it.
