The Everything Guide to Macrobiotics: A practical introduction to the macrobiotic lifestyle - and how it can work for you (Everything® Series)

Includes easy to understand info on relevant topics such as chi, yin/yang and balanced eating - highly recommend!
I cannot recommend the Everything Guide to Macrobiotics enough. GET THIS BOOK if you are a typical American living the Standard American Diet (sad, I know... but that is how many of us were raised..) and now feel tried, drained, lack concentration and likely are battling chronic illnesses and health concerns prevalent in our society such as Diabetes, Hypertension, Heart Disease, Cancer, Obesity, Fibromyalgia, Asthma, Insomnia, Irritability, Depression, or any other of a very long list of diagnosis.Everything Guide to Macrobiotics explains important topics in a very easy to understand manner including yin/yang and how to balance naturally, chi (energy) simply by selecting different foods or combining several foods, such as why to use lemon juice with fish or why it is important to drink wine with meat but not certain other alcohols (yes, in many cases it is very healthy to enjoy a single glass of quality red wine with a steak dinner.)Everything Guide also includes approx 150 recipes (many of which are easy to prepare) along with a suggested weekly menu for each of the 4 seasons (again a subject which is sorely lacking from our cultural knowledge...)I am an obese woman who was formerly an athlete until sustaining a life-altering injury then a cascading series of medical complications led to several life-threatening diagnosis and am now once again disabled, permanently. Yet, despite not being able to work out and NOT believing in starvation fad diets either, I have garnered information from Everything Guide to Macrobiotics that has helped me on my journey to eat smarter to help me lose this stubborn weight. I am currently on target to lose 10% in 8 weeks, that's quite an accomplishment!

Useful and Great Recipes
Excellent book for someone starting a macrobiotic diet. The recipes are excellent although there are no photos for the finished dishes. But the explanation of the macrobiotic principles is very useful as well.

Wonderful Primer
This is a great book for anyone starting out in macrobiotics. I bought it for a friend who wanted to know more. I think this book is a great place to start.Even for those of us who have been practicing for a while, it is a good review. The recipes alone are a reason to have this book.

Great Guide
Having several books on Macrobiotic Diet, I almost didn't buy another one. But this one is great, printed in a relaxing green ink. Well informed, and explained. Great appealing recipes, I have marked several for immediate cooking.I encourage beginners to get a great understanding from this lovely author.I await new cookbooks from her!

Not really macrobiotics
Please pass this book by and buy Jessica Porters The Hip Chick's Guide to Macrobiotics. In the Everything.......book I found the section on the organ systems to be very clear and the reasons to avoid certain foods, such as the Nightshades, was understandable. (However, I am a longtime practitioner of Macrobiotics and I have never before read or heard that a cup of nuts per week was standard fare.) I agree with the one reviewer that said that the book does not make Macrobiotics clear at all, and it assumes that you already know something about the subject. The recipes have too much fat and sweet in them and they'll leave you with a craving to find a balance to these extremes. I find them quite appealing when you read them but the recipes I have used have been astoundingly tasteless. Now, I love macrobiotic cooking because it is very tasty and if you start your macrobiotic journey with this book, you will completely miss the joy of eating exquisite natural foods and the balance they bring to your life. If you do buy this book, rip off the back section with the recipes and throw it away. The Hip Chick recipes, on the other hand, are wonderful and you will leave the table feeling content.

great guide to healthy eating
I love this book so much! I have a lot of different books I reference daily, but I have a feeling this one will soon take the place of many of them. The recipes are easy to follow and the ones I have tried so far, are really good.

Excellent introduction to macrobiotics
I wanted a book which offered a simple introduction to macrobiotics and this book was excellent. Logical, Easy to understand explanations, lovely recipes. I didnt give it a '5' only because the colour of the font on a lot of the pages is a soft greyish colour to blend with the design of the book. Whilst this looks good visually, I found it difficult to read after a length of time.
