Body Brilliant: A Teenage Guide to a Positive Body Image

Great for my teen daughter
My 14-year old adopted daughter has some self-esteem issues, which include her body even though she is a healthy weight. She raves about this book as being very helpful to her. I'm thankful that it is reinforcing what we try to teach our kids about the healthy balance between enjoying life and yet not over-indulging on sweets. Between accepting your body how it is, yet fueling it with mostly nutritious foods.

Such a useful and informative book
The media could not be loaded. Got this book for our 14-year old daughter who's currently facing some of the challenges in this book and for my wife and I as parents. The book is well written quite easy to follow. She can either read the whole book through or use it as a reference guide. It has 14 chapters and they range from understanding body image, adolescence, puberty, and eating disorders tp self-harm, best brilliant body, self-expression and self-respect. There's also an index at the back of the book where you could look up specific things e.g. gender, illness, makeup, periods, etc.It contains over 300 pages of really useful information for teenagers. Though the book seems to be more targeted towards girls than boys. However, there is still a lot of relevant information in there for them.It is a bit wordy and could have done with some more pictures but is an easy read and simple to follow. There is also some very useful “Resource” information at the end of each chapter. Which contains suggestions for further reading and links to a number of websites. As parents, this book is also useful for us to understand some of the challenges our daughter faces and hopefully give her some guidance & support. It does offer a good starting point for discussing difficult issues with our daughter or her with us. Particularly where we have concerns in some areas. We do have 12-year-old daughter as well and this book would also be suitable for her to read.I hope you found this review & photos interesting, informative and useful.

Loads of topics covered. Informative and reassuring.
This is a useful and informative book for teens. it covers all sort of things such as puberty, gender and sexual identity, exercise, eating disorders etc and these topics are discussed intelligently and non-judgmentally and I would be very happy with my teenagers using this to get information from. It's very factual and doesn't talk down to teens at all and has links to useful websites at the end of each topic. It's all split into chapters so easy to dip into just what you are interested in. There is a lot of stuff in there that I think would be new to my teenagers such as self harm and cosmetic surgery.I think the trouble will be getting my teens to read it though to be honest. I've popped it in my daughter's room so it's there as a reference book should she need it but she had very little interest in it.I would recommend it for schools and for older teenagers going through particular issues but not sure it has mainstream appeal as there's just so much in it.

If you can get the Teen to read it...
This is a great book which. Helps teenagers understand body image and how their own image is impacted by the world around them. What a world they have inherited with its image conscious focus which tells them what they should and should not look like.Body image and poor body image was something I always associated with girls....until I had a boy who at 17 hates his body, hates his ADHD (because he can’t organise himself) and who won’t look in the mirror. This book is an easy and good read with key points you can use to talk with your teenagers. It’s not a quick fix as anyone who has a teen with poor self image will know. It’s an ongoing task and this book is a springboard of thoughts and ideas which will help.Obviously it would be great if the teenager in question is motivated enough to read it themselves but if they really are not then it’s an ideal guide for a parent/Carer.

Great for Teenagers
This book focuses on the positive body image and explains how to be happy whatever your body is like. I like the writing style and the way you can dip in and out of it and read in small chunks.Perfect for teenagers, especially those lacking in confidence.
