Hi, this review is for the black cotton mary janes by Shoes 18. They are fantastic, fit extremely well and are cute as heck if you love the vintage retro look of the '70s and '80s. The white Shoes 18 mary janes also fit the bill, maybe they run a tad bit large. But they are still very wearable and comfortable. The success of the black and white shoes led me to wanting other colors. I purchased red, light blue and pink. Sadly they didn't live up to the reputation of the black and white shoes. While ordered on the same Shoe 18 site, they were from different manufacturer's. They were very much UNDER SIZED though listed as the same as the black and white ones. Very narrow and the length barely fit. They run extremely smaller. While wearable, they offer little comfort. My foot is wide, and the strap wouldn't meet the sliding catch. They worked only after sewing and gorilla glueing the strap to the catch tab. They are all cute though. Just beware that these China flats come from different manufacturer's and as such you can't count on size unifomity. Deffenently a hit and miss. I still give 5 stars for the excellent black and white flats I sought to begin with. Good luck.

I'm dropping my rating to one star after two botched orders. First Order: I ordered the all black canvas shoe (including black sole) & received one with a red sole. Also, I ordered size 8 & it's more like a size 7. I will return it & try one more time to purchase it & hope I'll get the correct color (all black) & size this time. Otherwise I'm pleased with the quality of the shoe. The canvas feels sturdy & I love that the whole inside is lined with a linen-like fabric including the insole which is quilted. Nice touch. I sent a message to the seller saying I must get the correct size this time. They returned my message saying they sent me the red sole because they were "sold out" of the one I originally ordered (in that case, send me a message BEFORE shipping a different one out!) They asked if I still wanted the replacement order even though it has a red sole. I told them o.k., but make sure the size is correct this time. Second Order: I received a VELVET shoe (I ordered a canvas shoe)! I purposely ordered from this company because I wanted an all black canvas shoe, not velvet or with a red sole. At least the size was correct this time. It is taking my time to package & return my first order to a UPS store today. If I get there & there is a charge for the return shipping, I'm reporting this company.

First of all, I got the flower embroidered black ones. I saw them and audibly gasped bc I have a shirt with the same flowers so it was PERFECT. For the price, I just had to try them.They look exactly as pictured! They’re super comfy! And fit perfectly!To elaborate, they are a true black, not a faded blackish gray. The flowers are embroidered just as pictured. The type of fabric, trim, and lining are all very comfortable. As someone who struggles with being able to comfortably wear shoes without socks, I was pleasantly surprised at how soft everything was. The soles are sturdy looking and the type of material that bends easily with each step but not crack or make that loud clacking sound. The inside, like I mentioned before is comfortable, but has no arch support, which I personally like, but worth noting for people who need it.Some people had issues with smell and the strap, mine have a new shoe smell not bad and not gasoline-like as I’ve seen some mention. My straps function perfectly, no issues like some have mentioned.As far as fit, mine fit my feet perfectly. I have flat chunky feet that are wide. My family refers to the family foot shape as Barney Rubble. LOL — So, I usually struggle to find a flat or heel to fit right. Usually sneakers are my only comfort shoe. So to find a pair of flats be this cute, this comfortable, and this affordable… WOW! My shoe size can be anywhere from 7.5 US Women’s all the way to 9.5 US Women’s.. All depends on the brand and style of shoe. So, 8.5 is a happy medium that I usually go with and hope for the best, HOWEVER, the Amazon recommended size was 9, so I went with that. I’m glad I did, bc I think the 8.5 would’ve been tight. So, the 9 fit me in width, it also allows the strap to sit comfortably and not tight, and the length has a teeny bit on room in the toes.. not too much but not tight.If they fall apart after one wear or something else like that, I’ll update, otherwise they’re awesome!!

I love the color of the shoes . They are lightweight . Wear a 8 1/2 . I bought a 9 . They are perfect length wise but a little big and loose fitting on the top of my foot . I will not wear them often because they are flimsy with no support but I love the look of the shoe ! May try an arch innersole. For the price they are fine and just what I expected . Was a little confused by the hook buckle . I’ve never seen that before . They are fun and I’m glad I bought them .

Received the wrong pair, ordered black canvas with black soles, received black velvet with brownish soles. Though I would have preferred the ones I actually ordered, especially with the price difference, it’s not a big enough deal to bother returning or exchanging them. They’re flimsy flat shoes, but I’ve had quite a few pairs over the years so I knew that going in. They have zero support, but they are comfortable and cute and they fit. I’m almost 6th tall, with feet to support the height. It’s hard to find Chinese women’s shoes above a size 8/9 so I’m rolling with it. Bought them for a closed option for wearing with summer dresses without getting rocks in my feet or having them slip and slide off while walking through my gravel driveway.

Love the shoes but for the size 8 the toes were somewhat a bit tight hopefully they'll stretch

The fit is fine. I expected soft cloth, which is the material of the old fashioned Chinese mary janes. This shoe is made of a tougher, stiff material. I’m stuck with them since I wore them out. I do not recommend these.

These are exactly how I remembered! Well made, comfortable, flexible… so cute. Sized up and that was perfect!

I have been looking for the traditional cotton mary janes of my childhood; up until about 3 years ago I could find them in little Chinese markets but lately I haven't had any luck, it seems like velvet is the trend for them now. I looked long and hard at these pictures and they appeared to be the right fabric; they are not. They are more like a canvas, which, esthetically, is great, they hold their shape nicely. BUT they are extremely hot. I've tried replacing the insoles but they are still uncomfortably warm. If you aren't a die hard traditionalist about the fabric, these are nice little summer shoes. If you hate sweaty, hot feet, I wouldn't recommend.

They are almost perfect, not standardized sizes...will add extra liners. Great deal!

Sizing to big

I'm a UK size 9, so really wasn't sure what to expect, thought I'd chance it, so glad I did!Arrived earlier than expected (considering theyre made in China, but delivered from the U.S. 🙄 )Not as flimsy as I was expecting, the buckle is pretty tinny (not tiny, TINNY) but that could always be swapped out. Immediately comfortable when I put them on. My feet are 27.6cm, and they fit great. Look very cute, even on my canoes. Defo worth the price, will buy more when I can!
