Very pleasing tone, great pick!
This ocarina is my first. I bought two more for some friends and they are trying to learn it as their first instrument. I normally play brass instruments and piano. But I wanted something quieter and smaller and able to be played in outdoor settings, like my back porch and like a forest preserve. I had (and still have) difficulty learning reasonable fingerings. But I started playing simple tunes within a couple of days, so its not impossible. The instrument sounds great and makes me feel like I'm a turtle dove, lol. The craftsmanship is perfect, as I have come to expect from a Japanese company. The outside surface feels soft, though the instrument is made of a hard plastic. There must be some fancy chambering inside because it sounds beautiful, far better than the plastic recorder I bought some time ago. This was a fun gift for myself!

Very Good Sound, Easy to Play, and Extremely Durable
I`ve been playing oc for about a year now and I own a Forrest Whisper along with a few other clay ocarinas. I primarily play on hikes and when I`m spearfishing on my kayak or SUP. I usually hike and/or dive all day and would always worry about getting my clay oc's soaked or cracked, which is why I purchased the Night by Noble plastic ocarina. It sounds great, is compact but not hard to play with larger hands, and it's very durable. This is the best plastic oc on the market and I can't recommend it highly enough for those who want to stuff it in a pack or boat and not have to worry about water damage or cracks. Very satisfied with my purchase!

High Quality Musical Instrument, Not a Toy.
I ordered two Night by Noble Ocarinas, one in Black and this one in Ivory. Both exceeded my expectations in tone quality -- very mellow toned and pitch accurate. I also have a Focalink Stein in Alto C; although both brands sound relatively mellow, IMO the Focalink Stein sounds closer to the voicing of a recorder, while the Night by Noble sounds closer to the voicing of a flute. Another difference I noticed was in playability. The Night by Noble was far more easier to play as a novice than the Focalink Stein. The Focalink Stein's flat surface hindered rather than assisted my ability to cover the holes to generate a clean note. Both ocarinas are better built and better sounding than most plastic ocarinas out there, but if you had to choose one I believe that the Night by Noble is the better choice of the two. I took one star off for a perceptible seam misalignment on the Ivory Night by Noble ocarina; nevertheless, it is a cosmetic defect that doesn't affect its sound. Its companion Black Night by Noble is perfect. I would highly recommend both.

I found it awkward to hold
I bought this as a gift for an 8 year old. I have a a clay 6 hole and a 10 hole plastic mountain ocarina brand shaped like a recorder. I really like the sound of the Night ocarina, however, I personally found it awkward to play it in the shape it is in. I played flute when younger but with this being so short I found it to be very difficult to place my fingers on it properly and it made my shoulders ache. I wished mouth part was more in the place of where the cord hole is or a little bit more to the end so it wasn't so awkward and painful to hold. If this company made one in that shape I would purchase one for myself because it really is a nice sounding and well made instrument.

Smooth like butter
This was my first ocarina. At first, I thought this Ocarina was no good and couldn't hold a tune. So I didn't play it much. Then I found a street vendor selling one in Korea, and he played it beautifully, so I bought a second one. Turns out, I was just as bad on that one. After finally figuring out how to play I like this ocarina very much. It's much better than my "street vendor" ocarina. It has a nice texture, and then tone is smooth like butter. It's more of a soft, warm sound, as opposed to my other one, which has a shrill, thinner sound. You could say this one is more like a flute, while the other is more like a whistle. I hope that helps someone out there trying to decide.

Good, Not Great
I'm a novice ocarina player, but a veteran woodwind musician (been playing Irish flute and whistle for nearly 30 years now). I got into ocarina thanks in large part to my children. When searching around for cheap ocarinas that were still playable, I came across a Night by Noble lookalike for only $12. The reviews I saw both on Amazon and on YouTube said it was almost the same thing. I bought up several for myself and my kids. But I wanted to compare these cheaper ocarinas to the Night by Noble itself. Given the positive reviews that Night by Noble gets, I expected better. The build on the one I received left much to be desired. Although airtight, there are gaps all along the seam, including right next to the mouthpiece. The body of the ocarina itself was rather scratched, which I assume is because it came poorly packaged in a padded envelope. The box inside the envelope containing the ocarina was smashed up, and I was relieved to discover that the ocarina itself had only been scratched and not smashed. There was also a sticky film all over the instrument where it looked as if price tag stickers had been removed. I cleaned the film off, but it left black smudges all over my ivory colored ocarina. The tone quality is lovely, overall. It has a clear, mellow tone in the lower notes, but the higher notes get rather airy and out of tune. The cheaper knockoff I bought also has a clear tone, but is much brighter sounding, is less airy in the higher notes, and plays in tune (at least with itself) without great effort or breath adjustment. Overall, I'd say this ocarina is ok. Perhaps the more I play it the more I'll come to like it, but its first impressions are rather disappointing. Since the Night by Noble is often recommended as a beginner ocarina, I'd recommend saving yourself some money and buying the much cheaper (and highly playable) lookalike by Aestivate.

If you're planning to learn the ocarina, this is an exceptional choice for the money being spent. You might think that cheaper options exist through Amazon, which is true, but the fact is that the sound quality and tuning on those are usually inconsistent and generally off. If you want to go for a piece to add to a Legend of Zelda display though, there are some good one's for that. But, the long and short of it is that a Night by Noble ocarina is great for starting out, plus it is less likely to break than more expensive ceramic ones, so there's a plus.

I have had this ocarina for almost two months, and I have really enjoyed it. It takes more air to make sound than a recorder, but the sound is clear and gentle, like an "owl hoot". It's good exercise!

This is my first 12-hole Ocarina and I love it! It's such a quality item, the plastic doesn't feel cheap at all compared to other Ocarinas, I don't have to worry dropping it as well. I go the ivory one and I really adore the color, the sound is amazing and it's very easy to hold. I recommend this awesome Ocarina to every beginner! The shipping from Japan to EU was very fast as well!
