DNF- Horrific portrayal and treatment of CSA victim
I got about halfway through before I skimmed to the end, and found myself incredibly disappointed by the treatment of a sex-abuse victim. I understand it's just fiction, but the idea that love and "good sex" cures anything--whether it's a stammer or whether it's sixteen years of ritualistic sex abuse, rape, and captivity, is incredibly offensive. The author claims that she has a degree in religious studies, and that she did research on people who have escaped cult environments, but I find it difficult to believe she did anything other than read and fetishize the idea of past abuse. The main character is held captive in a compound and has been sexually abused and violently raped from the age of eight, and yet she immediately is "over" her issues once she falls in love with the main character. She offers herself sexually to please Styx, which is the only realistic part I saw in the actions of Mae. I understand it's an MC so they're not entirely on the up-and-up when it comes to maybe obtaining a therapist, but the very thought of "love cures all" when someone has been so abused is stomach-churning. It's offensive and does a huge disservice to the people who actually DID escape these situations. The book ends with the partial dismantling of the cult, and with the rescue of her two sisters. I think what's possibly even more disgusting and disturbing is that one of the girls who was the most violently assaulted through her years in the compound makes a connection to one of the most violent and disturbed men in the MC. A character called Flame engages in violent self-harm and exists to torture other individuals. That foreshadows yet another "love cures all" which is frankly horrifying. Styx keeps repeating that Mae deserves something better and that's true. She needs therapy, not getting dicked-down on the regular. I'm for exploring taboo ideas in fiction, but there's a line people shouldn't cross, and trying to claim this is in any way representative of a person who has successfully escaped a dangerous situation and was able to heal is frankly horrifying. I could not possibly recommend this book to anyone and honestly the author should be ashamed of herself.

Well, okay then. I feel like half my friends are going to hate me for not liking this book, so if you like, don't read this!😂 But here we go.First, the hero was okay... I guess? Before I went into this, I asked around if there was cheating or a bunch of OW drama, because that is one reason why I stay away from MC books. They are all literally the same in that aspect, and I wouldn't be too annoyed if there was just some OW drama maybe in the beginning or something, because club wh*r*s unfortunately come with the the territory of MC books. So I asked and was told the first book has a bit but the rest don't, and that this series was a unique MC series... Which it wasn't.The hero has thought about the heroine for years since meeting her one time and being each other's first kisses, then they meet a second time, feelings are still there, but the hero tries to deny it by being with OW up until 40%. This doesn't bother me too much really since it was before they were a couple and did anything, except that last time, when he chose a club W who was banned and hated, to have sex with, right after he was intimate with the heroine, literally right after. How is he a hero? You know what she went through, but kind of throwing it in her face by rejecting her, then going to have sex with someone else? They didn't do anything, but he tried and wanted to, just stopped it at the last second, and then the heroine saw it. That was his last OW scene that I read before DNFing. Before that we see multiple times him being with an OW who was in love with him, while the heroine was at the compound, and that goes on for 40%. So I'm supposed to believe he has a connection with the heroine, but I never saw it. He also didn't really pursue her until he saw her with another man and got jealous. I kept getting told how much he cared for the heroine, but never showed, and I just didn't feel any chemistry really. He was just a bleh hero. The heroine is just as bad to me. This book had a couple dark scenes to see what she went through, but I never believed it. Not what happened in itself, but just that the heroine went through because her personality and reactions were so inconsistent. I'm supposed to believe she went through years of torture and rape, and her being manipulated, and hating it all, just to go to the compound and believe everything they say. She adjusted so well, it's almost as if she never lived in an actual cult. She was so readily to have sex and wear stuff she believed she shouldn't wear. She thought everything was a sin up until the compound, but she so easily gave up those beliefs on the word of others, no matter how wrong the previous beliefs were, there was just no development or growth, or her slowly discovering what she had been taught was wrong. Everything was just so off with her, and I never felt for anything she went through because I didn't believe that she actually went through any of it, she was so normalized after. I'm not saying i don't believe that stuff actually happens, just that the heroine was so off and it's hard to sympathize when there was hardly trauma or aftermath of it.The story and writing was also just eh. I'm not sure where "unique MC" came from, because I have read a lot of MCs and this literally just felt like a typical cheesy MC book, add in a religious cult. There were always club Ws around, always talk of them, always talk of sex and pu**y (same old same old in MCs), we got plenty of scenes of a future hero having a threesome or talking about it, and I'm just a little confused on how these men would be good for these women who went through so much trauma, when they can't even keep it in their pants?Another one of the things that overshadowed pretty much everything else was the writing, which I didn't care for at all. Every sentence I felt like ended in an explanation mark and a "he screamed". I swear there was a lot of screaming, holy crap. Does every dialogue need to be shouted or "screamed"? So not was only the story cheesy and cliche, which it was, but the writing was almost childish. As if this was a debut book, was it? Not sure, but it annoyed the crap outta me.Also the use of the word "B**ch" was nonstop. VERY repetitive. The were calling the club Ws it, the heroine, the old ladies, pretty much every woman was called that as a name, nobody cared. The hero was even calling the heroine it to her face like it was normal, and she didn't blink an eye, even after her upbringing. The vocabulary was low in this book obviously.Overall, I didn't like this book at all, and finally just decided to DNF when i was struggling to keep going on when I could be read in something that interests me more. I might read Flame and Maddie's books, but won't be reading any of the others.

Terrible
The high rate, the stars given to the book tricked me into buying it. The language was terrible, all women were called "bitch" , even the h was called so in her face from the H. The language is so limited and exhausting! He met her when he was 11 and they kissed!! Was she 9? He was ever since"changed" man!!! Give me a break! Childish, stupid plot! Her reactions, behaviors are not consistent, is she traumatized or not??? Shortly after meeting him, she declares that he is a good man even when right then he admitted killing people and enjoying it. She is an expert on good and bad after living in isolation and believing the religious brainwashing there and seeing a whole new world. No trauma, no confusion and been called "bitch" is natural. She was in love (?!) because they kissed when they were kids! They saw each other then and just kissed. Very normal.Whatever, the problems are too many. Of course I couldn't finished the book, about 30% was enough for me. I wouldn't recommend it.

Incredible.
Sinning never felt so good."I am blown away. Truly blown away at this incredible story. I went in blind all I knew was it was an MC romance that's it. I didn't know anything about Mea. I didn't know about the religious cult until I read her authors notes, from then I knew right away I would love this book. I have been obsessed with groups of people who live different to how I do. That being "cults", different religions, or people who just live a different way of life to me. I found this book so fascinating, I have never read anything like this before. From the first page I was hooked.Mea story is sickening and heartbreaking. Reading it really affected me. It's a very sensitive story so be aware and the way Tillie writes it felt so real. For such a heavy story I actually laughed a lot reading it, the way the men are, the way they speak, the thing they do I actually LOL. Mainly at Ky. I have a good feeling about his book. Everyone in this book brought something to the table. I'm not just obsessed with this couple I'm obsessed with this whole world. It's unbelievably good.Just Mea's story alone is 5 STAR and the add a crazy psycho MC president you get one hell of a story. Mea and Styx individually are amazing characters. I love both their story alone and together. They go on a incredible journey together. I have to mention the detail in this book is out of this world. I can picture everything in my head. Tillies writing is perfection. If you haven't read this go in blind try to stay about from any big spoilers. This book will consume you.

4.5 stars
As a boy, Styx once stumbled upon a beautiful but sad girl. She was behind a huge fence, crying, and he wanted nothing more than to talk to her. To comfort her. But he had a speech impediment and would only speak to his dad and best friend, Ky. To the rest of the world he used ASL. Since the girl was frightened and clearly didn’t understand sign language, he tried his best to speak, and to his immense surprise, managed to get stuttered words out.15 years later, Styx was now the president of his MC, Hades Hangmen. Feared and revered, was known as the Hangmen Mute. But he never forgot about the sad, scared girl in the forest that day. He tried for years to find her but could never find the location again. So when a girl turns up in his compound, bleeding to death, she seems familiar to him. Could she be the one he’s been looking for all along?Oh. My. God. This book. I am…almost speechless. There is a lot of heavy content so please do read the trigger warnings and author’s note because this is not for the faint of heart.Salome (Mae) has been through a horrific life of abuse, disguised as religion. As the Lord’s word. She grew up in a commune, a cult, where the Prophet David basically just made up all these visions to get away with rape, child rape at that, and all other kinds of abuse. Mae has never known life outside of the commune so could do nothing but accept her fate. Until one day she is pushed to her limit and flees. The struggle between Mae and Styx was frustrating, but it made it all the more real. Styx is unapologetically himself - flawed, an outlaw, and totally out of his depth when it comes to loving someone. Mae was naive in certain matters but honestly I think she adapted incredibly well all things considered! There was no doubting their chemistry, their passion, their love. And I adore how they helped balance each other out.Spicy, violent, and yet endearing, it’s a true mark of great writing to be able to accomplish all three in one book.

5 big black stars!
For the first book in a series this one did not hold back at all. You get sucked into two very different, yet both terrifying, worlds. One a violent 1% MC club, the other a horrific religious cult.By some miracle the two briefly meet as children, yet it seems to give each of them a bit of hope, and then by some twist of fate years later they find each other again.A stuttering president of a dangerous motorcycle club has been bought down by broken girl with wolf eyes.I adore their connection. Through all the horrors of their lives they have such a pure, innocent love.Styx will not stop to keep mae safe, there is bloodshed, there is death, there is an ultimate battle and there is innocent lives to be saved. It it EPIC!!Live free. Ride free. Die free.

Fast paced and gripping from the beginning.
A few of my friends had read this book/series and told me it was good, so I decided to give book #1 in the series a read. I can honestly say that I was not disappointed! I will be continuing with the series. It Ain't Me Babe is fast paced, and it is gripping from the beginning. It tells the twisted stories of the characters well, and what a set of characters they are. Each one is unique and brings many different qualities to the overall story. The author has written this book extremely well; it is clear to see how much love and emotion that she has given her work. Her writing style is clear, informative, and highly addictive, it will ensnare your attention and hold it until the very last page. Her characters are well rounded, they have and do endure so much, you cannot help but be sucked into their lives and feel for them. These characters will find a way into your heart and make you want to know more. They interact with each other well; they talk, they argue, they fight. They display their emotions in ways that can be related to by just about everyone.I am looking forward to reading book #2 and the rest of the Hades Hangmen series.

Overall this was a good solid read
3.5 StarsGenre-wise this is an MC Romance. We have Salome/Mae growing up behind the fence part of a religious commune. Her life a nightmare so much so she escapes under the fence making a break for freedom. She passes out behind a dumpster near death and on the doorstep of the Hades Hangman MC.The Prez Styx is mute due to a stutter and he finds something familiar in the half-dead girl that has suddenly appeared out of nowhere. They met once before as children through the fence and he hasn’t been able to forget her wolf eyes since. This one is definitely not hearts and flowers and Styx is a bit of a D with a short fuse and hot temper. He’s also crude and unapologetically real.I did find this lacked some of the romance I was after concentrating more on MC life and all.So With Mae growing up In a cult and Styx having a disability it actually made this stand out from your average MC story and Mae’s background does make her stronger despite her lack of normal life experiences.I thought this was gritty and raw but not really that dark.It definitely has dark undertones and situations though but I wouldn’t class this as dark romance. There was also some stuff that wasn’t to my taste but I kind of expected it anyway with this being MC romance and all.Overall this was a good solid read but I’m still unsure whether I will be continuing on with this series just due to the stuff here that was not to my taste.
