Lisle 60200 Heavy Duty Strap Filter Wrench

I could not get the big blue filter loose with the plastic wrench that came with the system. A youtube video pointed me to this device so I bought it. Note that it uses a 1/2 inch ratched, not the more common 3/8. My local Home Depot did not have a 1/2” ratchet, so I got a 1/2” breaker bar. It was not quite as easy to use but once the wrench was tight it was great and the filter came off with little trouble. This wrench did not really have any instructions with it so it took a couple minutes to figure out how to use it, but it was not that hard.

If you have a water filter case that is stuck, this is the tool you need. I tried everything and nothing worked. I was ready to spend a lot more to replace the whole thing and then I saw this. It was easy to use and works great!

Pros are apparent when your putting this thing to the test. Build quality is significantly higher or equal to every similar product I have used. The tool is capable of performing in some pretty tight areas usually with ease. The material grabs very well. Just remember that a clean surface free of oily dirty debris is ideal and allows the tool to perform flawlessly. (I've always used small amount of an ammonia free glass cleaner directly on a rag.) The only negative I've experienced is simple. Add the use of a 3/8 ratchet without an adapter. I understand the idea that this tool can outperform a standard filter wrench but requires more torque to actually turn due to force applied. so it makes sense to include the use of the larger heavy duty ratchet/breaker bars. However when I'm upside down sideways in boats compartments or trying to remove a filter from a vehicle without pulling twenty layers of plastic shielding I just need a product capable of excessing the filter in time saving ways. More than once or twice now I've grabbed this thing paused and found myself realizing I didn't bring an adapter and almost never any 1/2 tools to service calls. Then I end up a little irritated I didn't buy a brand with an additional square built into the opposite side... Overall Lisle has built another great tool that I have become attached to.

When you purchase a whole house water filter they always come with the most worthless cheap tool, that works one or two times. This strap tool used with a 1/2" socket handle is a winner. Also I used to use Vaseline on the threads so the case would unscrew easier. Now I have switched to a special plastic on plastic thread lubricant that is much better, beats the Vaseline lube hands down, see pic. The strap is heavy duty, and would be something that you could hand down to your kids, it could easily last 50+ years, super well built. I wish I would have gotten this 30 years ago.

This Lisle HD Strap Tool arrived in 2 days. The first use and reason for buying was to remove a K&N oil filter with, “Lol” nut on the end. In all fairness the oil filter had been on there awhile and was stuck!!! Rounded the nut, channel locks couldn’t get a good enough grip to turn, and getting enough leverage with a traditional oil filter wrench wasn’t happening. Wrapped the strap around the filter and positioned yoke so 1/2” ratchet with 8” extension can be inserted for clearance underneath. Put floor jack handle over ratchet handle to make BFBB! Turned it “lefty loosey”! The strap took hold of the filter and it broke loose right away, Hallelujah ! The design of this strap will also fit the screw ring on the pool pump to clean debris basket! This tool is an alternative to a rubber strap wrench with handle.This Lisle tool can get into tight places and allow the leverage needed to break loose what you’re removing.

I have two very large whole house filters in the crawl space of the house I recently moved into. When I attempted to remove the filter housing, it wouldn’t budge. I released the pressure on the line and tried the filter wrench, filter wrench with a pipe on the handle, pounded on the filter wrench with a rubber mallet, pounded on the filter wrench with a three pound hammer, twisting an oil filter strap wrench on it, and heating the exterior part of the housing but nothing would move the housing at all. After the second day I received this strap wrench. Even this product with my ratchet wouldn’t twist the housing until I combined this strap wrench with a four-foot section of pipe and applied steady strong pressure. I had to use all of my body weight, but both housings did twist off. The old filters did have grease around the o-ring but there was no way I was getting them off without this product.

I had 2 water filter housings that would not come off, I tried all other tools and tricks I could find online.. and FINALLY this strap worked like a charm.. I had to use a lot of elbow grease but was able to get enough leverage to get these bad boys off! I'm sure the previous owner (not me!) tightened these housings with the same strap! Thanks !!

Made in USA. Not labelled USA on the tool though, unfortunately.

Used to remove two water filter sumps which were stuck tight. Worked perfectly, and had to endure a lot of force.

Had real issues undoing a water filter. Tried all sorts of solutions. This did the job. Would certainly recommend it.
