Its cheap, but expensive.
Buy it at harbor freight, it's half the price and the same thing.

A pleasant surprise
This is a massive tool. It is robust, large and much more than I had expected. I will use it for woodworking. It holds a standard wooden pencil which is held firmly in place. Once you set the radius on this compass/divider it holds the setting very well.

Works fine, but
This compass works fine for what I needed it for but I could have purchased it at my local Harbor Freight for less than half what I paid for it via Amazon. I just didn't think this was something HF sold so I didn't look there.

Be Very Careful
First of all, it is a solid instrument and well made. BUT! Where it hinges at top, there are a couple of razor sharp points. I laid my thumb open. It just took a few licks with a file to remedy the situation. I can't believe a company would send something like this out. Like I said, a good instrument but use caution.

Heavy duty!
This thing is built like a tank, as far as dividers go. It's sturdy and works great. Well worth the investment.If you want to put a mechanical pencil in there (like a Pentel) it will hold it but may scratch your pencil barrel a bit, even with the screw all the way out. But the tool itself is great. Highly recommended.

well made
haven't used it yet. it's a simple compass / divider, and is well constructed. it will hold different size markers. a writing pencil is about as small as the holder will get. it's not plated so you'll have to excercise tool care. once its adjusted to the size you want, a thumb screw secures your setting. the thumb screw is somewhat delicate but only requires a moderate tightening to secure your setting.it will last lifetimes if used for its intended purpose

Didn’t Work For My Purposes
I love the size, but for drawing on canvas, not very good. The tips are extremely pointed, which will leave a hole in most material. Also it’s hard to open and close - too tight, can’t get precision.

Sturdy.
Stainless steel fot easy maintenance. Pencil holder allows play in tip due to small securing screw that digs into soft pencil shaft allowing movement. No silution yet.... but will study further.
