MEH....
I actually did not buy this to USED as a compass, but rather as a token for a church talk for a child's baptism. We put a quote on the top half as a reminder of the meaning of the talk....so it served OUR purpose. As a compass, I wouldn't trust MY life with it. It does seem cheap...$10 is way over priced, but I needed one and shipping was quick...so there IS that.

Great First Compass
Compact and light, it's an easy addition to your pack, yet large enough to fit in the palm of your hand and easily read. The needle spins easily and as long as it's kept level, it always points north. The case is a light plastic and has the feeling of being cheap, but even so it works just fine. The instructions are printed on the inside lid and are very simple to follow. The lid snaps closed for safe keeping. This works as a great first compass and for the price, you don't have to worry about it getting roughed up a little.

Not as shown
Product shipped was compass only without lanyard or clamshell opening feature to the compass. I ordered this product twice. The first time for my nephew and it came as described. The second time was for my own children and it was a different product.

Learning compass
My grandson (6) was facsinated with my husband's very complicated professional compass ... so we purchased this one for him to practice with. He is remarkably good at it already. I think it was worth the $. I never hesitate to update my reviews should new info seem useful.

Review of Directional Compass
This compass was bought as a birthday gift for a seven year old grandson who wanted a compass with a cover on it. The family does a lot of camping and likes being outdoors. From the reports received from his parents, the child enjoys the compass very much and has incorporated it into his outdoor activities and playing games.

A good learning tool
This was a present for my grandson, it's not a serious survival tool but great for learning how to use one. It also requires he put down his electronic toys for a few minutes to learn a valuable skill.

challenge to figure out
Nice compass but the instructions on how to use were hard to decifer. An army vet coworker had to explain it to me. Works great now that I know how to use it.

Would buy a different one next time
My son dropped this once and all the liquid came out so it had to go in the garbage. I was unsure what the liquid inside was and hope it wasn’t toxic on his skin. It really wasn’t very solid, but I have nothing to compare it to as I have never bought a compass before.
